Thread: Need some advice...

    Default Need some advice...

I have some cousins coming into town and I have 2.5 days to show them all of OKC that I can. The issue is, they don't have a lot of money to spend. This is what I have come up with so far:

    1. Bricktown (Banjo Museum, Bricktown Candy Company, boat ride)
    2. Boathouse Row
    3. Capital area
    4. Midtown (lunch at Irma's milkshake at Kaiser's)
    5. Eischen's
    6. Big Truck Tacos
    7. Automobile Alley
    8. University of Oklahoma (Campus Corner)

What else would you all recommend?

I'd go for unique OKC area attractions, which clearly you're doing. Land Run Monument obviously is free. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum is a good stop. So is the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and the Oklahoma City National Memorial.

The underground tunnels in downtown... love the way the tunnels are lit up.
Paseo? maybe save that when they have a festival.

We will tackle the Land Run Monument when we are in BT and definitely make it to the Memorial. The National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum we will try to work in.

They come in the Thursday before Memorial Day, will be in town all day Friday, part of Saturday, Sunday evening and all day Monday.

I'm not in town much in daytime hours. When does the Underground bolt up for the evening?

On locations, some would depend on their ages. And I do not know if there is one in OKC, but Sooner Mall in Norman now has a Glow in the Dark indoor mini golf offering, which my older teen son seems to be very happy about. It';s apparently in the space across from Old Navy on the north central part of the mall.

There are aspects of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum (still the Cowboy Hall of Fame to certain dinos like moi) for every age.

I know some here are not fond of bass Pro but it's an interesting store and I used to really enjoy the fishtanks and some rather nice a/c on hot days.

Some folks really like White Water and it should be open soon.

Lots of real golf opportunities if you like to muck up a nice walk with a dimpled white ball.

Just hanging at Draper or Hefner can be a good way to avoid others while enjoying catching up

And just let me throw in that OKC has great quilt shops. I'm just saying...

Tour of the Asian District, AutoAlley, Arts District, Lake Hefner Wharf area, the Underground, Paseo, Pops might be cooler than taking them to Eichens, if you can give us their approximate ages, it may help us give better suggestions depending on if they are 12,21, or 30.

Paseo Arts Festival is alot of fun and goes on during the evening hours with live music. The Oklahoma History Center is nice too, or the Harn Homestead (you could bring a picnic lunch).

Are there any horse shows or rodeos going on at the fairgrounds?

We plan on going to Eischens and Pops actually. AA and Lake Hefner are works in and with the Paseo Arts Festival going on that weekend, we might have to work it in. Never thought of the Underground, mostly because my wife works DT and doesn't like to go down there when she is off work, but hopefully we can work it in when we go to BT.

I'm always a proponent of going to the Paseo even when there isn't a festival. It is usually the most "surprising" thing to my out of town guests and is the best chance to show something unique.

The fair grounds has a computer show, the great plains regional rodeo, and a horse show.

I think with the ages they are, that walking around the canal and enjoying the night life in Bricktown would be enjoyable.

No offense, but I don't think too many college age kids on their summer break want to go to a computer show or rodeo at our State Fairgrounds.

    Knowing their ages:

    Bricktown
    Midtown
Paseo (for the arts fest and otherwise)
Campus Corner and DT Noman (students leaving soon)
Asian District and Super Cao Nguyen
    Lake Hefner area
    OKC National Memorial
    OKCMOA
Possibly Stockyards and Cowboy Museum, depending on their interests
