Default City Plans Arbor Week Ceremony

City plans Arbor Week ceremony; 3/27

Oklahoma City is celebrating Arbor Week with a ceremonial tree planting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27. The planting will take place in the south parking area of First Presbyterian Church, 1001 NW 25.

Students from Dove Science Academy will assist City and State officials with the planting.

The ceremony marks the end of a month-long tree-planting project in the Paseo neighborhood. The project, sponsored by Chesapeake Energy, was initiated through the City’s NeighborWoods Program, which connects businesses that purchase trees with residents who care for them.

“We will add 100 new trees to the Paseo neighborhood by the end of March as a part of this beautification and revitalization program,” said NeighborWoods Coordinator Jacob Moore. The benefits these trees lend to the Paseo neighborhood will be evident for years to come.” Moore added.

A professional landscaper is in the process of installing the trees for residents. Varieties include Oklahoma Redbud, Chinese Pistache, Lacebark Elm, Shumard Oak, and Sawtooth Oak.

Oklahoma’s Arbor Week is celebrated during the last full week of March. Oklahoma City has been registered as a Tree City USA since 2002.

Other sponsors of the NeighborWoods Program include The Tree Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.
