    Default Taft Stadium Memories

For the old farts from Oklahoma City......anybody here ever go to the old stockcar races out at Taft Stadium or the Old Fairgrounds in the 1950's?

Oklahoma City's Jimmy Reece, killed in a race in 1959. Raced numerous times at Indy. Buried at Rose Hill cemetery.

Nice shot from the old Fairgrounds grandstand near Douglas High School. Circa 1950.

Went to many HS football games there.

I went to Putnam City but we played John Marshall and Northwest there and also played the 1977 state championship game there agaisnt PC West -- still probably the best HS game ever played in Oklahoma. Were close to 20K at that game.

Now we're talkin' some good ol' days. I, too, went to many high school football games there. The same years you are talking and earlier. I remember the Putnam City-Northwest Classen games were always the BIG game. By the time I got to high school that rivalry had pretty much run its course. But, wow, how I remember football at Taft Stadium. Oh, and the Oklahoma City Plainsmen football team; and who could forget the Oklahoma City Dolls?!?!

OKC also had a soccer team that played there for a while called the Slickers.

    Yep, the Oklahoma City Slickers!

Didn't they have a guy that did a sumersult on the in-bounds pass. Funny, there is a lot of discussion about OKC supporting a soccer team when many people don't even know we use to have a team back in the day.
