That was a huge retail space to occupy. I went one time looking for big and tall jeans but they were all sold out in my size. Langston's stocks a lot of jeans but their swift reordering of certain sizes is lacking.
I wonder if Langston's chose not to renew, if they upped the price to high, or if the landlord decided not to renew them.
The folks running that entire Uptown development are morons. Have been for 20 years. I dont know if its still NorthStar/Atkinson, but they just keep shorting themselves and shoot themselves in the foot. It all started with the failed redevelopment and how they went about doing it...and then how each phase got crappier and crappier with a lack of tenants. That first phase has been half empty since they did the redevelopment more than 10 years ago now. They are a perfect example of there needing to be a tax on developers who keep spaces unoccupied because they refuse to offer a propre market rate for their space (because they didn't plan properly for the expenses).
The absolute best thing that could happen for all of Uptown, is for someone else to buy it out. Seems like every project that group has touched has floundered and failed.
I worked in that building when it was an Anthony's waaay back in the summer of 1987.
Well that's great. Maybe that's why the lease wasn't renewed. Maybe we'll be seeing some work done in this last section that barely got a paintjob in the "remodels".
The Midwest City Beacon put out an article saying that Goodwill will be moving to the old Langston's space.
Then Crunch Fitness will fill the soon to be vacant Goodwill and Tuesday Morning space.
I have heard that the old Dick's space will be divided up for two different businesses. One of them is supposed to be Langston's. There are rumors on the other business, but I don't want to say until I know for sure.
If all of that is true, that's actually all good news.
HomeGoods and Langston are going to share the old Dick’s store. I think they want that store leased in short order as the city is subsidizing the lease.
Whatever fills the spot. It's always a bad look for attracting businesses if you have a big space like that open. MWC has traditionally done very well to fill those big box locations. Even Target's old location wasn't empty because someone didn't buy it. The old hospital owners just wouldn't get off their butts to actually DO The work they were supposed to. I'd glad Winco finally too that. Kmart turned into Anthony's pretty quickly when they moved. The old Walmart on Reno/Midwest also turned into that storage facility pretty quickly and the Albertson's out front turned to the Walmart Market. Even the old original Walmart and JC Pennys on Air Depot have been able to keep filled with various divided stores.
It does mean the city has to sometimes work with the developers to incentivize the stores moving in. But that's WAAAAAAY better than having empty buildings sitting there not doing anything (heritage). HPM is really the last eyesore left.
Actually, come to think of it, i guess that doesn't count for things north of 10th. That area always seems to be treated like a different city.
