Thread: Concerts in Oklahoma City

I got to meet Steve Walsh when he was on hiatus with Kansas and touring with his band Streets. Being a native Kansan myself (I was born there to Okie parents) I loved the heck out of that band, but never saw Kansas (thankfully with Walsh) itself live until a Zoo Amphitheater show years after their prime.

I saw them in 1980, pretty sure it was the last tour with Walsh (for a while), got lucky...

Yeah, he rejoined in 1986, but I think the show I saw was many years later (maybe mid-late aughts…?). He retired from the band for good in 2014. No Kerry Livgren at the show I saw though, it’s so debatable whether I actually saw Kansas.

I know what you mean - I have a thing against seeing bands w/o original members. Most of the time, if they're missing just one or two, it's *mostly* fine, but with bands like The (English) Beat (who I got excited about coming here, for a minute, until I did some research), if it's just Dave Wakeling and a bunch of other hired guns, that's just basically a cover band. But when we saw the Psychedelic Furs and they had Mars on sax (who wasn't original, but was in them just a few years later) and Amanda on keyboards (she wasn't in them, but was in Information Society, so she wasn't just a hired gun), it was OK, because they had ties and were of the era...

Anyone going to see Beth Orton at BCMH? She put out a stellar record in the late 90s.

I'll likely be going to that - not familiar with her older work (probably should give it a listen before the show) but her most recent album is a gem for sure.

Not really a fan of hers (or BCMH), but am seeing Boris X Melvins there. Saw Black Joe Lewis at Tower a few years back, won't be seeing him either at BCMH, but would recommend him, he's pretty good.

The one concert I regret missing was a Morissey show years ago that he played here during a snow storm that had less than 100 people. Def messed that up.
I also regret missing that Morissey show, but in all fairness who would have thought he would have actually performed that night. he has stood me up on more than one occasion and the last time I had tickets to see him i had an opportunity to go to Denver to see Lily Allen one night and the presets the next night so I stood Morrisey up and gave those tickets away. wouldn't you know it, he showed up that night..lol

When we saw Foreigner at Lucky Star, there wasn't a single original band member on the stage. Mick Jones was out for heart surgery or some other major medical issue and they had a stand-in guitar player. They were still one of the best bands I've ever seen live. Absolutely amazing performance.

That is precisely why I didn't go- he was not going to show up. Damn you Morissey.

Showing my age here I’m guessing, but I have never heard of Roosevelt.
They sort of sound like Morrisey with a little Book of Love thrown in.

Also, the Plaza District Festival on September 30th has a ton of music, probably the most local bands playing in one spot this side of Norman Music Festival and the OKC Festival of the Arts. Here are some recommendations for that:

    Main Stage
    3:00 p.m. - The Big News
    4:00 p.m. - Computer Girl
    7:00 p.m. - Swim Fan
    8:00 p.m. - Helen Kelter Skelter

    ACM@UCO Stage
    3:30 p.m. - Settling
    7:30 p.m. - Keathley & the Burning Bras

Honestly just have never listened to Roosevelt, but you and enough other people have raved about him in this thread that I'll probably go to that show if I'm free that night.
