Thread: Unequal treatment by Logan County

  1. #1

Default Unequal treatment by Logan County

Favortism again shown by Law Enforcement when dealing with the family of the Governor. Seems like some oversight needs to be shown. This is not a political issue but an equal treatment under the law of all state residents issue. Why did Logan County involve the Highway Patrol? Inquiring minds want answers.

There's a reason nobody has been arrested -- it's because no crime has been committed. The Troopers involved were likely those assigned to the governor's detail. If you read the story before just assuming BS because it's the governor, Logan County didn't call the troopers, the son called the mother who in turn sent the troopers to handle. Keep in mind this is a personal detail assigned to the governor and family.

When I was young and dumb, we were all underage and caught drinking at the pumpjacks outside of town and the deputies used their discretion and had us call our parents who in turn came to pick us up, drive our vehicles home, etc, and no harm no foul. Only difference here is that it's the kid of a politician that many on this website are vocal about not liking.

The guns aren't an issue either since it's legal to have them. Sure they should be locked up and more secure than they apparently were, but again no crime there just stupid youngsters.

Actually, you have minor in possession as well as public intoxication. Lots of minors in neighboring Payne county go to jail for that all the time. He is probably ok on the guns as it isn't against the law to transport under the influence of alcohol...it is illegal to carry a firearm under the influence. He was not carrying here from what the police report says

Have you read the actual police report? I have, Stitt admits he was intoxicated. The beer was found in his truck. Seems pretty factual to me. There aren't facts to support any gun related charges which is why I said he is probably ok on those.

Jeep - I did read it and was replying (sarcastically) to Magz, not you.

    A. He wasn't observed by authorities driving while intoxicated B. Minor in Possession is a misdemeanor not subject to arrest C. The level of public intoxication is determined by the responding authorities and they have the discretion on how to remedy the situation D. He cooperated with the authorities on the scene

Someone reported that a can was thrown from the vehicle which hit another car. Unfortunately this is an unproven allegation, though having been a young teenage boy at one time I can see this happening.

Minors get caught all the time doing stupid crap they shouldn't be doing, but there was nothing in the police report that rises to the level of arrest.

In fact, a lesson could be learned here that if you just cooperate with authorities and do what they ask, they just might cut you some slack. That being said, I won't dispute that sometimes who-ya-know helps and that is nothing new nor is it a Republican versus Democrat issue.

    Thanks.

^(B) What statute exempts misdemeanors from arrest? (C) No level of intox by a minor is permissable or discresionary.
As far as the personal detail of troopers.. Son is no longer living with the Governor and is over 18. In any case that detail is for security and not for legal intervention on behalf of Sara Stitt.

First of all I didn't say that misdemeanors were exempt from arrest, but if you know anything about policing it is at a responding officer's discretion how to handle such a call. Please show me the law where it states you MUST be arrested at the sight of a misdemeanor, even a minor. I personally agree that no level of intoxication should be permissible for a minor, but again, where in the law is it that the minor must be arrested for such a deed?

    Facts versus opinions.

The troopers weren't sent for "legal intervention" if you'd read the articles. They were sent to retrieve the firearms at the request of the first family, which are reportedly the Governor's belongings.

Anyway, I'm not surprised at the hatred of the state's conservative leadership that this would be spurred into something it just isn't.

    Take care.

I've heard the term "professional courtesy" used when situations like this arise.

Better to just look the other way, right? Wanting conservatives to follow the law that they demand everyone else follow is “hatred”. What spin.

The term "privlage" is what this inaction describes. Professional courtesy is extended to those in like professions.

It's interesting all this happened on Halloween and yet there was no report until after the election.

    https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news...tJAgaEX8nabxIw

GUTHRIE − Following a Halloween incident in Guthrie, the Logan County Sheriff's Office recommended that a charge be filed against the governor's son for possessing alcohol as a minor, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by The Oklahoman.

The Logan County district attorney's office, which received the recommendation, has not filed any related charges and declined to comment to The Oklahoman on Monday.

I wouldn't go too hard on Stitt's family on this issue. As much as it pains me, and as much as I have been routinely disgusted by the Governor's making available the State government for looting by the well-connected, this is an entirely separate issue, and I don't think it really has much to do with the governor's office.

I'm sure if you looked at the children of Oak Tree families or other well-appointed north Logan County families' treatment by the local constabulary, you'd run into a lot of similar treatment. I'm not sure whether that sort of treatment would extend to racial minorities in that area because to be honest, I'm not sure there really are that many racial minorities in that area.

Does that make it right or just? No. But blaming some entitled brat kid for a system which has existed since before his birth and without significant intervention will continue beyond his death seems like misassigned blame.

That wouldn't have changed a single vote. And it shouldn't have.

Stitt beat his better-funded Democrat opponent by 10 points. He lost OKC and drew even in Tulsa.

Until Dems figure out a way to not be the great Satan of the rural counties, it doesn't matter how bad the GOP incumbant is.

Speaking as a lifelong Independent, the Democrat party (as a whole entity) is an absolute idiot at figuring out how to do things like that.

The Dem party needs to appoint a chair from a rural part fo the state right now--or at the very least, a co-chair. Appealing to an urban base whilst ignoring the hinterlands may work for you in Pennsylvania and Georgia, but it's clearly a recipe for disaster in Oklahoma. I may even have someone in mind who would perfectly fit the bill.

Man, what low quality beers. That alone shows a lack of maturity. How old is this young man?
