Thread: OU Tulane Game

  1. Default OU Tulane Game

Is anyone familiar with the area around Tulane? I'm looking for some fun places to hang out after the game.

I haven't been to NO in a good while, but I don't think the area near Tulane is great. Stick to the touristy areas of NO.

I've done the touristy places. I'm looking for Tulane's equivalent of Campus Corner.

This would be incorrect. Uptown is actually a pretty good part of town and there are a lot of old homes in that area. Much more laid back than downtown too. As with any major city though, it's best not to wander too far off the beaten path at night.

There is The Boot right off Campus but you'll be hanging out with a bunch of college freshmen, just to be warned. There are also some bars and stuff on Maple which isn't too far from Campus. It's not really the same as a Campus Corner though. I strongly recommend Camellia Grill for burgers, fries, shakes, and chatty staff. Be prepared to wait in line though depending on when you go. You can get there pretty easily by taking the streetcar.

Thanks, Maple St looks like it has several good options.

Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street is great, especially if you're looking for live music.

You may need a boat to get around.

Same here. that's a lot of good games that day (bama vs miami, texas vs louisiana, and georgia vs clemson) so I am wanting to hit mostly sports bars and catch big chunks of those games.

Hopefully this tropical storm doesn't mess everything up.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on that possibility

There are some decent places on Magazine also. We just got back last week from moving my son into Loyola New Orleans. Be advised that every bar and restaurant requires for inside entrance, proof of vaccination or a negative test within 72 hours. Masks are also required. Having a pic on your phone works.

My wife and I belong to Krewe of Tucks so we are in NOLA often. Here are a few places we like:

For great red beans and rice, gumbo or poboys when in the quarter, hit NOLA Poboy https://www.yelp.com/biz/nola-poboys-new-orleans-2 You can thank me later.

As you are walking down Bourbon, you will start coming into the area where the gay clubs start. You will pass Napoleon's Itch in the block before. It says it is a nightclub but really is just a walk up bar for to go drinks. These are the best mojitos my wife and I have ever had. Usually 8-10 flavors all made with fresh muddled fruit (blackberry, watermelon, cucumber, jalapeno, blueberry, strawberry). My wife makes us go get several when we are walking around the quarter. https://www.yelp.com/biz/napoleons-itch-new-orleans

The best chargrilled oysters we have found is at Desire at the Royal Sonesta. They have a happy hour in the late afternoon. https://www.sonesta.com/us/louisiana...esireoysterbar

For a really good sazerac....the Sazerac bar at the Roosevelt Hotel. Speaking of Sazerac, the Sazerac House just opened on Canal. It offers free tours but must be booked online. You get to try a few samples and is a cool tour. https://www.sazerachouse.com/

Thanks for all the suggestions. I love NOLA and have been several times. It is one of the top 5 food cities in the US in my opinion. So many great options.

I'll be down there as well. Other than a couple college bars before the game I don't intend to stay in the Tulane area after the game. We'll probably head to the Frenchman Street area. It's the best alternative to the Bourbon street silliness. Although, I think Bourbon street may be a touch more fun this year since the city won't be overrun with tourists due to weather, covid vaccine requirements, etc. Should be a lot of OU fans running the city, tbh.

Southern Decadence is happening the same weekend as the OU-Tulane game. Bourbon St will be crazy.

I second hitting up the Maple Leaf for some live music or if you're a little more in the Garden District, there's always great live music at Tipitna's which is pretty well known. Magazine Street has some good places too and for those into shopping, it's not a bad place to go during the day for that sort of thing. I personally liked sitting out on the patio and eating lunch and having a drink at Cavan last time I went.

Yeah, mentioned upthread. It wouldn't surprise me if they move the game to Norman.

hopefully it does get as powerful as they forcast .. and is a fast moving storm .. and makes land hall over night ..

if it hits as a CAT 1 and is pretty fast moving it won't effect the game ..

Don't know about Tulane but my son goes to Loyola next door and they have been advised to evacuate. Classes are cancelled today and Monday. The students that can't evacuate will be moved to interior dorm rooms and basically locked in. Classes resume Tuesday so unless it is a major hit, I see the game going on as planned. (my boy will be safe...he flies home tonight)
