Texas to Vote on Legalized Gambling in November.

It appears that Texas residents might be voting for legalized gambling in November. They will build 4 "resort" style casinos with world class shopping, restaurants, and amenities that will definitely have an affect on the State of Oklahoma. Will Oklahoma gaming be strong enough to survive if this gets approved in Texas? What are your thoughts?

Meh. Maybe some of the casinos will get thier act together and not feel like glorified bingo parlors. Windstar(parts of it) and Hardrock are the only ones I've been to that have a real vegas/casino feel. The rest all feel like they're still the same old pull tab/bingo halls with a few more noisy machines.

That being said I think the tribes have a good handle and are well established in the gaming world, and I don't see them having too much trouble adjusting.

I'd love to see Oklahoma be able to do something similar to this though. It would be great to see a Sands or Harrah's casino resort in OKC, even though I doubt it will ever happen.

It might be good for the state and tribes to be seriously talking about sports gaming though. Especially if Texas has it at these new casinos.

That will be pretty bad if any are built between DFW and the Oklahoma border.

I guess I'm just a simpleton because there isn't much of anything that Dallas has that makes me want for it. And, I sure don't want the traffic, McMansions on zero lot lines, and property taxes that eclipse our combined property and state income taxes. But hey, you do you.

And lose the antes on blackjack. It's probably good for me that it's in place because it keeps me from ever gambling ever, unless I'm traveling somewhere. If you play strategy card well it's the most friendly odds in the house, and antes completely eat it up and then some unless you're playing higher stakes. I know there are some places that forgo the ante but I'm not enough of an enthusiast to go on a long drive for that. Norman, however...

we need someone to take the rains on this (like bice did with booze ) and modernize the state gaming laws ....

if the ante system went away both the casino and the state would make more money and the individual player would have better odds ... (for point of fairness i will add that the "universal player" would lose out on the mandatory givebacks)
