Wow how sad for the employees and the town. I guess someone could turn it into a marijuana grow facility. Seems like that's the trend out there.

It's a private prison.. I think we are better off without it.

^^^ my first thoughts as well. Sad for Hinton but good for society overall not having for profit prisons.

Wonder if the state could absorb it?

Oklahoma should build a massive new correctional facility that is state of the art like the one currently U/C in Utah. It could then get rid of its remaining private prisons.

Not sure but it’s not finished yet. This link has information that brands it “state of the art.”

The more l think about it the more possibilities....how about a facility that cares for mentally ill who have committed crimes or otherwise been arrested for being mentally ill. It seems such a waste to have such a facility emptied.

What is the official reason this facility is closing down?

Arrested for being mentally ill. That says a lot.

They primarily hold federal inmates, and the new administration is facing out private contracts.

It sat empty from 2010 - 2015 when GEO group purchased the facility. The company has told officials in Hinton that it will seek new contracts with other government agencies to eventually house more prisoners there.

At least the prison in Cushing didn't have to closed as was planned. It was able to get a 3 year contract with the feds: https://www.stwnewspress.com/news/lo...6f94c8798.html

Maybe the Hinton prison can find a deal to keep open.

Hinton's a neat clean town for the most part but they need a new Mayor in the worst way!

My oldest brother-in-law's family has quite a bit of land in the Hinton-Binger area. I've always liked both towns.
