I agree, Pete. The next step could be shutting down all domestic commercial air travel. Can you even imagine? That’s what the Chinese have done and apparently is being credited for up to 70% of the success of their draconian containment strategy.

I believe it is at least two cases because the nutcase Rubio has it too. He was laughing at it last week. May not be so funny now.

Huge impact for airlines, hotels, sports, arenas, concerts, conventions even restaurants and bars... And of course all the ripple effect.

Even just losing the Thunder games for a while will be a huge hit to OKC.

It's hard to even comprehend the economic impact. There will also just be an immense health care burden, especially because we have so many people in this state and country without insurance.

Then, trade and almost every business is going to take a hit, many will be crippled. Schools start getting closed, what happens to all the working moms and dads?? It's going to go on and on.

All this said understanding there are real and sincere concerns for the health of so many.

This whole thing seems to be snowballing and if people were panicking before, things are really going to take off now.

Gobert was mocking the virus in a press conference on Monday.

it’s 9:50 as I write this. Still no comment from Governor Stitt. Where is our state leadership? Am I being too harsh?

The power of OKCTalk. (Just kidding)
The statement said nothing we couldn’t assume.

It is 100% the right decision. Any work that can be done at home should be done at home. It's the only way to prevent our health system from being overwhelmed in the next couple weeks.

He literally touched reporters' mics. These people all now must quarantine and could have got COVID-19 from them. This isn't surprising, I still see a lot of people who don't get how serious this is and compare it to the flu.

So senseless. There is overreaction and then there is the opposite of it as in above.

I cant believe some people still think this isnt bad or the media is blowing this out of proportion. Oh well people will soon realize that its almost impossible to over react. This is serious and the people that got sick today who dont know fight off this virus will die in a month. So the people sick now got sick 5 to 10 days ago (some 14) and people dying now got sick close to a month ago. Oh well.

Its not about the eventual number of deaths. Its about trying to keep the number of people who go to hospitals down. We can be conservative and say 5% will need hospitalization. 5% of of several million people is still a very large number. Elderly people in large numbers matter.

I suppose we could just say if your over 65, self-quarantine and expected to be arrested if you do so show up to the hospital with the corona virus. But we are a sympathetic society.

It wouldn't surprise me if we see at least a small uptick in severity in the US compared to other countries because of our obesity problem.

Hey! Now the anti-MAPS crowd has a new dumb argument for why it’s been terrible for the city! If we never voted yes for MAPS, we never would’ve gotten an NBA team and thus we would’ve been spared from the Coronavirus! NO MAPS, NO COVID-19!!!!

Mortality is still significantly higher than flu. But focusing on mortality ignores the reality that the systematic threat is the overwhelming of the system. Right now the estimate is still that 60-70% of the population will end up catching this thing, and right now 20% of those infected will require hospitalization. That’s over 12% of the population in this area. The OKC Metropolitan Area has 1,400,000 people, so that ends up being 168,000 people requiring a hospital bed.

If we shoot for an extremely optimistic scenario and say that only 1% of the population will need a hospital bed instead of 12%, we still need 14,000 hospital beds.

And that’s why we are focusing on “flattening the curve” and are trying to spread out the timeframe over which those 60% will become infected.

Channel 9 is reporting that an as-yet unnamed member of the Jazz, one not diagnosed with COVD19, practiced at a gym at Del City High School on Tuesday. A limited number of people were present during the practice, and they are apparently being advised to "self-monitor" for symptoms.

Given that the Jazz were apparently concerned enough about Gobert's symptoms to have been in touch with Thunder staff well in advance of the game, it seems markedly irresponsible IMO to have allowed him to travel with the team. This has now needlessly exposed unknown numbers of hotel, restaurant, and related support staff.
