Huge dog park, bar and restaurant set to start on river

Bar K – based in Kansas City and part dog park, bar, restaurant, and event space – is set to start work on a huge complex in Oklahoma City's Boathouse District along the Oklahoma River.

The new facility will feature a massive 23,000 square feet of indoor, a large rooftop deck, and two acres of fenced-in play area for dogs.

Also included is a large indoor play area. Both indoor and outdoor parks will have separate spaces for large and small dogs.

The restaurant and bar will feature a healthy casual menu of food, gourmet coffee, juices and smoothies and a wide selection of local beers and craft cocktails.

Bar K charges a small fee for canines but also offers a full staff with multiple play structures and the OKC location will also have a ramp down to a dog swimming area.

There will also be a separately enclosed area for adoption events and special programming.

Final design plans by Arcturis of St. Louis have been submitted to review and then work should start this summer. Bar K is set to receive $750,000 in public incentives as a part of the city's Tax Increment Financing program.

    No.

They haven't even submitted building permits.

No way this is open by this summer or probably even this year.

Bar K set to open in OKC, offering dog park, bar and puppy-friendly event space
Planned for the Boathouse District, Bar K includes a 9,000 square-foot indoor dog park and two-acre outdoor dog park

OKLAHOMA CITY (May 6, 2021) — Management for Bar K, a unique dog-friendly destination, announced plans to build a dog park, bar, restaurant and event-space in the heart of Oklahoma City's Boathouse District in 2022. Bar K will sit on three acres adjacent to the Oklahoma River and will provide dog lovers and canines alike with a one-of-a-kind experience. Oklahoma City-based Rose Rock Development Partners and Pivot Project are co-developing the project.

"We think our riverfront location in the Boathouse District is perfect for Bar K," said David Hensley, founding partner of Bar K. "We can't wait to bring our unique and joyful concept to the people and pups of Oklahoma City."

OKC's Bar K will include a two-level structure with mezzanine balcony and patio, a 9,000 square-foot indoor dog park, a two-acre outdoor dog park and a 21,700 square-foot restaurant, bar and event space, allowing plenty of room for dogs of all ages and breeds to enjoy. Bar K will include an outdoor stage for music, an indoor space for private dog-friendly parties, a restaurant and easy access to the Oklahoma River via a "Boat and Bar K" ramp.

"We are grateful to announce yet another fantastic way for folks to enjoy the Boathouse District," said Mike Knopp, executive director of Oklahoma City's RIVERSPORT Foundation. "As we continue to develop programs, opportunities and adventures for Oklahoma City residents, adding Bar K to the roster is the perfect addition. When I saw Bar K for myself in Kansas City a couple of years ago as we were exploring complementary projects for the Boathouse District, I immediately knew this concept was the perfect fit for the world class outdoor lifestyle destination we are creating.”

"As a native to Oklahoma City, I think the Boathouse District is a huge asset to the city and an area I know will continue to thrive with distinctive projects like Bar K," said Scott Moehlenbrock, vice president of Rose Rock Development Partners. "Bar K is the kind of high-energy, experience-based retail that will complement the Boathouse District well. It's both a destination and a place you visit regularly. The combination of inside and outside space promotes the active lifestyle that the Boathouse District upholds. It is the perfect concept to take the Boathouse District to the next level."

“In our development experience, we have a few select projects that came about through a strategic partnership,” said Candace Baitz, partner of Pivot Project. “We knew this would ultimately be a better project by partnering with Rose Rock Development. The values of our two companies are aligned in bringing quality projects to our home city and contributing to the growth of our districts. We believe this is evident in bringing such a unique experience in Bar K to Oklahoma City and the Boathouse District.”

On the heels of its successful Kansas City operation, which received the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City's “Cornerstone Award” for 2019, Bar K bolsters economic development potential for the metro and will give patrons experiential options geared toward healthy, pet-friendly living.

As a pet parent I'm looking forward to Bar K! We're so lucky to be getting one! But those first couple of photos in this feed are really nice. Kind of wished they stuck with those designs but I'm just being nit picky.

Just visited BARK in Kansas City, pretty impressive, tons of people and ... dogs, I believed I saw over 100 cars in the parking lot, and that was a Wednesday afternoon. No wonder why they’ve managed to have the city give them $750K TIF money, and $1K/month rent for the first 10 years, they’ll definitely boost the atmosphere in the Boathouse District. But, man, it smelled, I guess they must figure out ways to make sure dog wastes don’t end up in the river with the new venue in OKC.

They've filed their building permit application.

Since it usually takes a couple of months for something this large to be issued, I'd say we're looking at next spring for completion.

Riversport to Host Groundbreaking Ceremony for Bar K
    At Annual Dogtober Celebration

OKLAHOMA CITY – (Oct. 7, 2021) – Oklahoma City dogs and dog lovers will soon have one more reason to love their city! Bar K is breaking ground for its innovative new dog park/bar/restaurant concept on Saturday, Oct. 16, in the Boathouse District. To celebrate, Bar K is teaming up with Riversport’s Outdoor October to throw a Dogtober Party complete with off-leash dog park, popup bar and tons of activities for four-legged friends and their owners.

Bar K’s flagship location in Kansas City opened in 2018 and has welcomed over 500,000 people and 350,000 dogs in the few years since launch. It was recently named “America’s Coolest” pet business by Pets+ Magazine. The company’s second location will open this November. Oklahoma City will be Bar K’s third location.

"We are excited to get shovels in the ground and start moving dirt so we can bring the Bar K experience to the community of dogs and dog lovers in Oklahoma City," said Dave Hensley, Founding Partner of Bar K.

The Bar K project is being developed by local firms Rose Rock Development Partners and Pivot Project and will be built by Miller-Tippens Construction. The state-of-the-art facility is expected to open in Fall, 2022.

“In addition to being a world class water sports facility, the Boathouse District will now be a destination for dog lovers throughout the region as well,” said Tim Strange of Rose Rock Development. “Bar K is an experience that Oklahoma Citians are going to love!”

Bar K represents the first private development in the Boathouse District.

“This is an important milestone in activating the Boathouse District for even more people (and dogs) throughout the city,” says Mike Knopp, Executive Director of the Riversport Foundation. “Bar K shares our passion for building outdoor lifestyle, so we’re excited about this partnership.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will start at 9am, followed by a Dogtober party, as part of Riversport’s Outdoor October. Dogtober will be held at the Boathouse Dog Park next to the McClendon Whitewater Center. In addition to an off-leash park and popup bar, activities will include DOGA, live music, SUP w/ Your Pup, and an Ask the Trainer booth. All activities are free.

A place this size is going to draw a lot of cars. Plenty of parking in the area, but, even with the large lot going between Bark K and the pump track, will be curious what it looks like when there are events (some of the district events have people parking in the grassy areas).

How often is the riversport rapids water dyed? The photos from May 1 contrasted to the most recent, it looks like it browns pretty quick lol.
