Weather General Weather Discussion - December 2019

Quiet weather continues this week. Looks like a solid weekend coming up.

As of now looks like things may get colder about mid-week next week, there will be some storms coming through around then as well.

The Oklahoma City NOAA weather station remains out. Here is the latest from Norman:

"There is an issue with the antenna/feed line which requires a brand new antenna system to be installed. We are working with our regional HQ and the tower owner to make the necessary repairs but the process is taking longer than usual. We're hoping to have the broadcast back on the air soon."

Thank you for that information, Bunty. I thought something was wrong with my radio.

A NEW UPDATE FROM NWS, Norman:

"....It is still off the air as we await the replacement of the antenna system. This is taking longer than usual for a variety of reasons.

The good news is we are working on a temporary solution involving a temporary tower/antenna.
If we're able to make this happen, it will get the station back on the air.

Even with the antenna at a much lower height and much lower transmitting power, we still estimate that this signal would provide coverage for most of Oklahoma County (which is the only county in the transmitter coverage area not at least partially covered by an adjacent transmitter.)

We should know more details next week, and ... keep you updated on the progress."

For now on the volunteer network of online NOAA weather radio stations, the Enid station is subbing for Oklahoma City. However, the audio may be somewhat noisy. The Stillwater NOAA station will probably be less noisy. https://noaaweatherradio.org/

Cold front blasting through right now. Will set up the rest of the week as dry and cool. highs in the upper 40s to low 50s and lows in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Next week looks like some precipitation chances come into play.

Chance of snow sneaking into the picture for Sunday into Monday. Right now it appears to be insignificant except for maybe a narrow swath of measurable snow across N OK. Will monitor.

I see the 12z GEM today moves the snow pretty much all in Kansas

The following link is a interesting to watch weather, and other facts, around the world. After going to the page, you hit "Earth" in the bottom left of the page. You can change settings. The "chem' change is worrisome. China does not care one bit what they are pouring into the air. You also use that setting to check where the disaster level fires are located. It reads the CO2 from the smoke. It updates every three hours. It will shutdown whenever Washington is having a budget battle. Check it out. https://earth.nullschool.net/#curren...4.09,41.17,536

Sunday-Monday storm forecast track is significantly further north than a few days ago. Maybe some freezing drizzle in northern parts of OK, but otherwise nothing to write home about.

Next storm on the horizon looks to be around Friday, right now it looks like rain.

Another large storm in the pipeline right now that is currently forecast to arrive around Christmas or shortly after.

The storm that went through the SE part of the US is the reason we had cooler temperatures today.

Moving forward strong south winds ahead of a large storm system will begin to overrun the area. Weekend highs will be in the 50s. Then Christmas week we are in the 60s until about the 26/27.

Right now the temperatures for storm arrival look warm enough for a very heavy rain event. Will keep monitoring heading into next week.

    Have a good weekend.

Mild weather confirmed for rest of the week. Although winds will begin picking up from the south each day as the storm approaches.

Rain and possibly heavy at times looks likely for majority of the state over the weekend. Cold air and wind rushes in behind the storm Sunday into early next week with highs in the 30s as we head into New Years.

Cool air will continue to filter down from the north overnight Thursday into Friday. But by late Friday afternoon, we should have warmer air riding up from the south ahead of the storm system. This will give a brief window of mild temperatures before rain and cold air come rushing in from the NW late Friday into Saturday. Temperatures will fall Saturday into Sunday - highs Sunday only making the 40s.

Temperatures rebound closer to average for New Years week.
