Adkins Crossing is land being developed along the West frontage of I-35 just south of the David Jay Perry Airport. It appears the new roads and utilities are close to being completed.

According to https://www.ok.gov/odot/I-35_Corridor_Projects.html the project at SH-74 and I-35 at Goldsby will include a roundabout. Does anyone have information on exactly where and what this is supposed to look like?

  7. Default Re: Goldsby Rumors and News

I went digging on the ODOT website. The roundabout will be at the point where the ramps to and from NB I-35 intersect with SH-74/Adkins Hill Rd. The north frontage road will be tied into the roundabout too.

This will be the sign you see when you reach the roundabout after exiting from NB I-35.

Thanks for the info. Care to tell me how to go about finding this type of info on the ODOT website?

It's not the most straightforward thing in the world, unfortunately. Basically you have to dig around in the files that they upload for contractors to bid on. Go to https://www.odot.org/contracts/index.htm and select a month. Under "Bid Opening Reports" at the bottom, select the "Award" link, which goes to a list of that month's projects up for bid and who they were awarded to. Find the project you're interested in and make note of the project number [in this case it's NHPPI-0035(297)SS]. Then under "Bid Documents" select "Preliminary Plans". Find the project number and then download "000 FULL FILE.pdf", which will be the full plans for the project. Keep in mind that these are the exact blueprints the ODOT is providing the contractor for them to build the project, so there will be lots of technical details to look at.

I don't know of any way to search for a specific project that has already been awarded, other than just looking at the list of projects for every month until you find the one you want. In this case it was the September 2019 letting.

Public input needed on proposed I-35 and SH-9 West interchange improvements in McClain County
The four interchange alternatives can be seen at https://oklahoma.gov/content/dam/ok/...20Graphics.pdf. None of the alternatives contain the flyover ramp that T.W. Shannon spoke about in the ODOT commission meeting a few months back that would be funded partially by the Chickasaw Nation.

So they downgraded the interchange and removed a ramp that would have been paid for by a third party. A ramp that would have taken traffic off the other ramps for commuters trying to get home.

Who the hell made this decision?

I think you're greatly overestimating the amount of benefit a direct ramp to the Riverwind parking lot would have done. The majority of people exiting here are commuters heading to Blanchard. While Riverwind traffic does add to the strain on the interchange, improving access to westbound SH-9 will ultimately help both Riverwind traffic and Blanchard traffic. Hopefully this plan will also result in closing the direct entrance and exit to Riverwind's north valet from SH-9 and routing it through either the new signalized intersection at Harvey/NW 12th and the existing one at Bankers Drive. That will help really reduce the number of conflict points where vehicles can cross paths in this area, which will increase safety.

Both the diverging diamond and SPUI options here make a lot of sense, because the majority of traffic flow is from the north to the west and vice-versa, and those interchange types serve that type of traffic pattern well. I have a feeling the diverging diamond option will be chosen, because the bridge is only about 10 years old and they would be able to re-use it for the new interchange. I'm not sure what the "reliever" ramp shown in a few of the options is for, though. It looks like they expect Riverwind traffic to take that and then loop around the south edge of the Riverwind property and come back north, but I don't think anyone is actually going to do that.

Interestingly, this will be the second time this interchange has been totally redone in my lifetime. The current setup only dates from about 2005 or so. Before then, here's what it looked like (1961 aerial):

If ODOT cared so much about facilitating commuter traffic than I should’ve built a stack prepared for an eventual freeway upgrade. But I don’t see how this casino ramp would’ve negatively affected any other ramps.

  17. Default Re: Goldsby Rumors and News

It's not so much about it negatively affecting any other ramps, but rather that it would mean that any for-profit business could essentially buy their own freeway ramp in Oklahoma if they pay for part of it. It would be a recipe for disaster if anyone with six million dollars can demand a ramp from the Interstate and say "well you let Riverwind have one". That's not so much a problem in McClain County but it definitely would be closer in to the core or anywhere else ramps are more closely spaced. Even if the engineers successfully made the case for denying the request, there would still be lawsuits over it where the engineers would have to testify that they're not picking favorites.

I still fail to see the problem even if that were to happen let it happen as long as it safe what is the issue. Examples do exist a freeway ramps going into private developments and I wish it would happen more. Oklahoma developers are too cheap to propose that anyways

In the public meeting on 11/18/21 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2HQyazobzk) around the 58 minute mark the Goldsby mayor speaks about Alternative 2B. It has a reliever ramp that bypasses HW-9. He indicates the Chickasaws would like to add a road at the end of the ramp North to the casino. I believe this would be the best option.

Sonic maybe..... I would definitely put that OnCue in the rumor pile though.... There may end up being one at Hwy 74 but it will be further south and won't happen for a few years if it happens at all.
