I grew up in Pennsylvania and drove through the town in the 1990s. My Dad and I were driving through the area and decided to check it out. It is true that there is smoke coming up from the ground.

In 1963-64 I lived with my Aunt in Pleasant Mount, PA which is in NEPA. Her daughter was going to nursing school in Carbondale and we would pick her up on the weekends. At that time there was a similar underground coal fire burning in Carbondale. Carbondale was more fortunate as they were able to extinguish it sometime in the 70's.

Interesting. I didn’t know about Carbondale. I will have to ask my Dad as it was before my time. Thanks for sharing.
