I-40 west of 44

Well we discussed this off and on for quite a while and the predictions have already started coming true.

So a few years ago I-40 was shaved down and then after the winter, it was asphalted over between I-44 and Meridian. A lot of people complained that the asphalt would just break down and asked why ODOT would do that when the concrete would last longer on its own.

Well guess what, it took less than 2 years for the asphalt to break down. AND, it didnt break down after the winter, it broke down in the heat of the summer! The west bound middle lane already has a string of holes in it that will grow stupid fast now.

So now we can expect to see a string of crappily patched sections (like ODOT always does since they cant ever seem to do them smoothly) strung along for that mile. Oh goodie......

This stretch is shameful! It needs to be replaced and we need a stack interchange for the I-40/I-44 junction asap.

It was always meant to be short term fix. Portland, Meridian, and MacArthur bridges and approaches are on the eight year plan for FY 2024 which will touch some if not all of this stretch of road with the rebuilding of the approaches. Regardless, you can't really re-grade everything and put in new concrete until those bridges are replaced. Sucks that it won't be for 5 years, buts that Oklahoma budget priorities for you.

I-40 Bridge over I-44 is also slated for replacement in FY 2024 so it does sound like this entire stretch is going to get a rebuild in 5 years. No multi-stack interchange currently planned though on 8 year plan.

OkDOT simply needs more funding or they need to fix the gas tax so all of it goes to road funding. We need a dedicated source for road funding AND mass transit or it will always be a sh!t show.

Im SUPER glad that those are in the plan. Just getting the Portland bridge to have one more lane would do wonders for the flow. Now if they could just figure out a flyover for the Meridian traffic to also go north on 44 without needing to cross all of i-40......
