I liked what Stitt said today when he discussed his plans.

Of all the things he discussed.... stabilizing the states revenue with greater savings is the most important long term solution.

It's critical that we establish an endowment fund like North Dakota has. Oklahoma has the resources to do this.

Stitt will be a vast improvement over Marry F.

Wish Stitt the best as Governor. Just for the record--I didn't vote for Kevin Stitt.

The system he plans to implement, with an overhaul of Oklahoma government with a state COO, sounds very similar to Michigan's Emergency Manager Law; major difference, the COO calls the shots.

Michigan emergency manager program may not survive the mess it made in Flint : https://www.bondbuyer.com/news/flint...cy-manager-law

I wonder why Texas and ND have such bigger savings accounts than us? Possibly because they didnt have an absurdly low gross production tax?

As much as I liked hearing Stitt and republican lawmakers being open to medicaid expansion last week, Stitt seemed to damper some of that today. Says that you cant trust the feds, even though nearly 40 states already are and they are getting hundreds of millions in extra dollars to give their citizens health care services. I guess he thinks we dont need $900 million in extra funds even though we are next to last in insured rates.

That’s not it at all....The rocks are very different in all states.... A real world reality that cannot be changed.

It’s coming down now but Oklahoma’s rocks have historically been more expensive to produce. It’s really very easy for drillers to pick up and move to a state with better profit margins.

Other states have had more responsible leaders who better understood how important it was to save money and put it into an endowment fund and watch it grow. Put our states economic house in order and we can shift some of the state’s Gross Production Tax into an endowment like these other states have.

Stitt wants to be top 10. Oklahoma will be in the bottom 5 of everything if we don’t start an endowment fund for a time when the oil & NG plays out.

IMHO a very significant part of any Oklahoma endowment fund should go to education and a significant part of that into high demand STEM degree programs and their research at OU & OSU that will be major drivers of our state’s economy in the decades to come.

Other states have better rocks you say? I'd say your right, but don't take my word for it let's take the EIA's.

Oh should have created an endowment to help smooth out the ups and downs instead of spending like a drunken sailor. Like this?

    ^Very good post.

We can do a lot better than the proposed statewide endowment that was voted down this past November.
Any endowment needs to help create conditions that help improved prosperity for our states residents. Just as Stitt indicated we need more tax payers, not higher taxes.

Your post reminds me of how wrong everyone on the left was when they said “Drill Baby Drill” would not work when in fact it’s been a giant game changer that's made trillions of dollars in difference.
It’s paid billions in taxes and created hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect well-paying jobs.

There is not a better social program than a good job!

Lower energy prices have helped average family’s achieve higher standards of living...contrast that to Obama and his democrats who actually said they wanted higher energy prices which can only make poor people poorer and more desperate...which seems to have been the goal.

As a lifelong Democrat, I do not support many aspects of the Republican agenda. I do however have hope in what I see Gov. Stitt attempting to do as it relates to Oklahoma increasing its competiveness for Companies and by extension JOBS. He appears to have placed as a priority funding efforts to lure NEW busniesses the State! I have long wondered why Oklahoma fails or either softly competes for Businesses (major Business, manufacturing, R&D, STEM), I am rooting for Gov. Stitt on this issue as I believe it is absolutely critical to improving the standard of living of Oklahomans. Improve Education and Jobs and Oklahoma can be on a higher growth path. TLO remains one of the few news/entertainment sources in OKC which actually, occasionally, engages in real journalism. The link provided, while containing the requisite snark does contain a notable story--that our Governor, while feigning being this breath of fresh air just hired a new Director of the Department of Public Safety whose two qualifications are: 15 years as a highway patrolman and being Frank Keating's son. This is relevant because Stitt is asking to hire and fire more directors while showing us that he will staff those positions for political and personal gain rather than hiring the most qualified individual possible.

I noticed that Stitt actually came out of his office and met with people during the Muslim Day at the Capitol. Nice change from the governors office

Wasn't the knock on him while he was running that he had no experience in politics?

Can't win for losing it seems.

The TLO story was that he’s only hiring “ass kissers.” If the DPS director being unqualified was the thrust they intended to push, they took “burying the lede” to a new level. I see absolutely no evidence he is hiring unqualified people or “ass kissers.” You can’t say that about Kouplen, Ostrowe, Budd, or Buck.

Which of those, would you say, were staffed for personal gain?

Edit: I have heard he is considering hiring David Kendrick as Secretary of Health. I would be concerned with that, if it happens. Kendrick is notorious for seeking political favor to advance his personal health IT business interests. But his hire is merely a hypothetical at this point.

So did my own research. Turns out Keating is probably overqualified for that position.

TLO seems to have missed that.

He has a name that has negative connotation in this state. For guys that do about 5 seconds of research, that's good enough to roll with. And when 90% of the audience doesn't know any better and is just waiting for pics of attractive news anchors and crazier at the state fair, you can get away with it.

Why would Keating have negative connotation in this state? I can't point to anything he did that I hate. I know that he's had a very successful career post-governorship. Good for him.

TLO does nothing even remotely close to journalism. It's a snarky website that wants to be taken seriously, sometimes they get a story right, but when they don't and make egregious errors, they just default too "we're just a comedy site!". Can't have it both ways.

His dad was a Republican governor. Isn't that enough around those parts?

Wait, are you talking about Frank or Chip? Because Chip is who he appointed to his cabinet (assuming Senate confirm anyway).

I was no fan of candidate Stitt and even less for governor elect Stitt but I must say in his first 100 days he’s knocked it out of the ballpark. It’s nice to have a gov who actually wants to get *beep* done.

No need to bash him, or his supporters, because he believes differently than you. Not saying I agree with him 100%, but being a jerk about it doesn't help anything.
