Thread: Not so fast.....

    Default Not so fast.....

With the ample amount of rain and cooler temps for August I wondered how our present conditions compared with what was predicted for our summer weather. Found this from AccuWeather Expert Long-Range Forecaster Paul Pastelok, several months ago, in his attempt to predict our summer weather regionally,

“Places like Dallas, Amarillo, Oklahoma City, those places are going to record above-normal temperatures and below-normal precipitation this summer,” Pastelok said. The forecast could spell bad news for cattle farmers and consumers alike. “The Plains drought could have an effect on agriculture and grazing for cattle,” Pastelok said. “The grass is not going to grow as much, so farmers are going to end up spending more on feed.”

One thing I love about weather is it can be completely unpredictable regardless how good our science has become.

AccuWeather's stock-in-trade are those long-term forecasts which are about as reliable as (insert favorite unreliability metaphor here).

FWIW, Dallas and northwest to Amarillo are not doing so great per the Drought Monitor... OKC, yeah, we've had it great. Far SW OK, Wichita Falls and Vernon, TX are in (comparatively) bad shape.

I really enjoy reading The Old Farmer's Almanac each year, but to be honest the weather forecasting is for entertainment purposes only. One thing is they group Oklahoma and Texas as one region, and that just simply is not possible. Texas itself is multiple conflicting climates. Any overall prediction is just going to be complete fabrication, and any resemblance to reality is merely coincidence.
