Hey everyone,

My neighbor just posted this on NextDoor and figured I'd share it here...

The city government paid a consulting firm back in 2013 to study the problem of abandoned properties in OKC, and below is their report.

https://www.okc.gov/home/showdocument?id=2518

It's a pretty fascinating read for anyone who is interested in looking through it. The most interesting and worrisome part of it was where they talked about property values in relation to abandoned houses.

- Within 600 ft of an abandoned house, average property values went down $18,433
- Within 400 ft of an abandoned house, average property values went down $31,122
- Within 150 ft of an abandoned house, average property values went down $43,144

My neighbor recently started a website called AbandonedOKC.com. It's a place for people to list troublesome abandoned properties in their neighborhoods in order to draw attention to the problem and find new owners.

Hopefully we can solve this problem ourselves.
