A 5 gallon BIB yields 30 gallons of soda in a perfect world. That 30 gallons is 320 12oz servings sold for a total of $960, Pepsi BIBs are selling for $94.30 per 5 gallon BIBs. So assuming staff never drinks soda and everyone that orders a soda only has one you are looking at about 10% COGS. Realistically most people have more than one and If I had to guess the majority of people have 2-3 sodas at a restaurant in my past experience as a server. Obviously some people only have one and sometimes you have people that have 10 or more.In the end they will likely be making 80-85% off their soft drinks.
I don't even mind paying the $3 for a soda with a few refills. $6 for something nonalcoholic is a dumb look.
If you can make a complex non alcoholic beverage that is worth my time I will happily pay $6. If it is lemonade and tea over ice that is where I personally take the issue. If it is unlimited refills it makes it a bit more appropriate, but I understand where you are coming from.
Is Birdies open?
Thanks Pete. Looking forward to trying it out.
They opened today and their temporary hours are 3 PM to 9 PM Tues - Sun.
It's a sit-down serving model and you are greeted by hostesses when you walk in. If you elect to eat at the bar, the hostess will escort you and provide a menu and silverware and then the bartender takes your drink and food orders.
The first dish pictured is fried okra, which is served whole. Second is the 'small' chicken tenders which were 3 sizeable pieces. I had the tenders with the mango habanero sauce (they have plenty more to choose from); it wasn't spicy at all but I'm not going to judge their food at this point, as I was there within an hour of opening the doors for the first time.
The last two photos are of various chicken bowls which I did not try.
^Funny - i tried to go there for lunch today about Noon. As the old saying goes - timing is everything!
We've been looking forward to Birdies opening, so we tried it today.
The food was good, but it's too expensive. Twenty four wings, two drinks (Root Beer & Tea) and a large side of Mac & Cheese was $74.00 before tax and tip.
We tried all four wet sauced wings but the guy who brought them out was unable to tell us which was which, so we had to guess and still aren't sure what are favorites were. Two of the options had some sauce on them, the other two had no visible sauce. The receipt indicated that all were sauced and not dry seasoning. They were all good, though.
The best part was the loaded mac & cheese. They use those fairly large macaroni shells, which I don't prefer, but I think one of the cheeses was smoked, probably the cheddar. It gave the dish an amazing smoky flavor that I loved.
If they weren't so expensive, we would probably go pretty regularly, but given the prices, we probably won't go that often.
On the menu Pete posted, the wings are multiples of six (6, 12 and 24). They only let us split an order between two seasonings, so we had to order two 12 wings, to get all four sauces.
I went here yesterday and agree pretty much with Corwin. The drumstick was amazing, the wing was good, but the smallest little baby wing I've ever seen. My friend loved her mac & cheese. The fries were not crinkle cut like the photos showed, but the FAR superior battered fry! The fries were seasoned very well too! The Tender was good, but more dry than the drumstick, but that's expected. The sauced chicken is not "wet" it was just the same as dry, and the spices are flavorful, but NOT SPICY! Chive biscuits were good but the size/ price ratio sucked. Cole Slaw was fine, but NOT worth $3 for that serving size. Over all the prices are bit much. its $1.50 for a very small ramekin of sauce, the $6 arnold palmer is gross to see on the menu. I will absolutely try again, but I hope they improve on some things. I do hope they embrace the Korean aspect, as they didn't have anything that felt like Korean flavors, it felt like Korean chicken for bland people. Stand outs were fries, drumstick, mac & cheese, and the Sweet Old Man Cocktail. I think they are close to Chicken Foot in quality of actual chicken as well as the over priced sides. AGAIN that chicken was BOMB, but the rest was overpriced.
I had the chicken sliders last week, they were pretty good, just the right amount for lunch. I don't get any kind of Korean connection here though, I was hoping for kimchi or different than ordinary chicken house sides. Also looked to be staffed by Deer Creek high school students on summer break.
I may not be posting this in the right place but went to the “new” Birdies tonight. Really enjoyed it! Food was excellent. We had various things (Sweet Potato Burrata and Kimchi Pancake for apps; Bibimbap, Prime Strip and Salmon for mains; and Crème brûlée for dessert between 4 people). It was very busy - fun atmosphere. Bar drinks good too! We plan to go back ….and soon!
I thought this thread was being revived to discuss Kevin Lee's current run on Food Network's Tournament of Champions. He got on as an alternate, had to go through a play in round, knocked out a number 1 seed, and is cooking in the Elite 8 next week. He's having a great run, and has hyped OKC on the show, as well. I'm rooting for him, still haven't been to the restaurant, but that might change very soon!
If you pull up the website it focuses on his success. That is cool he’s is making a nice run!
Tried the majority of the large and small plates with a couple steaks with some friends. Food is great, service is green, pricing is very fair compared to other similar concepts. I would like to see them eventually offer more seafood. It seems like they are taking it slow and looking to expand their offerings over time. This seems like the most sustainable concept Kevin Lee has put out, and it looks like it might actually stick around unlike Gogi Go and the original attempt at Birdie's. I wish them the best, this is a once or twice a year stop for me at best because I don't live anywhere close. I wouldn't be surprised if they maintain sustained success they look at moving to a larger location and expanding the concept.
Silly question: What's new about it?
It’s totally different. Was mostly a chicken place before. Now a much nicer Korean Steak House.
I wonder if they pivoted due to being right down the street from ANOTHER Korean Fried Chicken place. Which, I've had both and, I liked BBQ Chicken more. I'll have to swing by Birdie's now though.
K-Chick on 178th is my family's favorite Korean BBQ but they close early. It's great for ordering at the counter or to go orders. BBQ Chicken is good too, has a good atmosphere and is open much later. I haven't tried Birdies yet mainly because I try to spend money at the small family owned businesses.
We tried all three and K-Chick is the only one we kept returning to. Not that Birdies and BBQ Chicken were bad, they weren't, we just think K-Chick is better. We might have to try the new concept where Birdies was. We are big fans of Korean and eat at Wow Korean BBQ (best in the metro) on a regular basis.
