Selling books, CDs, LPs, videos?

Realized that even if I live to be 100, I'll never have time to listen to/read/watch even 1/3 of the stuff in my possession and looking for good places to sell them. Thousands of books, CDs, LPs, DVDs, Blu-rays that I need to get rid of, most fairly average used/listened to/watched but there are some that are pretty rare and/or limited and/or imported.

Books - Half Price Books rips you off so bad (a buck or less for something they turn around and sell for $8-10), I'd really like to not sell to them, wondering if there's any place that does better.

CDs/LPs - Guestroom probably, they seem fair.

Videos - Vintage Stock maybe, they seemed fair when I sold to them once.

Don't really have the time or patience to put all the stuff on eBay, and some of it is just so everyday/average it just isn't really eBay-able (I do have a friend that has an eBay store, not sure if he'd be willing to take this on, maybe for a cut of the profits, I'll have to see). Wherever I go, they'll have to be able to handle volume, as I'll probably have 10 or so small U-Haul boxes of books, and same for CDs/LPs, and probably 5 or so of videos. Might not be able to take all the boxes in to each place all at once, but it'd be nice to get it done all at one time rather than spread it out over a year or so.

So if anybody has any other suggestions besides those places I listed above, I'd appreciate a heads-up, thx...

Any retail store you sell to is going to offer less than you can make when selling directly either through eBay or maybe through like a Craigslist ad or something. Its definitely easier, but you're going to get less overall. I will say that Vintage Stock also does music, so you can probably combine your video/CD/LP trip into one at Vintage Stock. I don't have any idea what they'd offer, though.

Yeah, I'm willing to accept what retail will pay for a lot of my things, but some I'll definitely take to eBay or other specialist shops. I'll probably stick with Guestroom for my music, though, since a lot of it is their kind of music and not Vintage Stock's kind, probably get more at Guestroom for it, if you know what I mean...

unless you specifically need the cash... for the less rare stuff you'd probably end up ahead of the game if you donated the item to a non-profit (goodwill, am-vets, etc.) and claimed the donation on next year's taxes. the amount that you can ethically claim is probably more than what you can sell them to a used item broker for.

That'd certainly be easier, yeah, but we need a new dining room set, bedroom set, wooden fence, gutters, chimney repaired, a few tables, so cash would help us out more right now.

Just went through several rounds of selling things (CDs,DVDs,and books). Now that Hastings is gone, your best bets are Vintage Stock (for store credit) or to just sell things in grouped lots on eBay.

Be prepared that DVDs are effectively worthless at these stores. I had some DVDs that were turned down by 6 different stores/branches.

Half Price Books are always the last place I go, right before heading to Goodwill.

I had a garage sale last year and cd's were my best selling items. I couldn't believe it. I think I put $2 which I guess was too low but was pretty much what was recommended by a lot of sites on the internet. I had about 150 cds so not a bad chunk of change so not much work.

Discogs (discogs.com) sells CDs, might be a good place to put some of the rarer stuff.
