As I drive by it daily, it was overdue I put some pictures of the construction.

These are taken from 89th and Shield. You can not see the Eastern part of the project but there a lot of construction vehicles.

    It is a massive project.

The foundation for the shrine has now been poured (left portion of frame):

There is a crane on site erecting structural steel beams for the new shrine.

Steel is going up; great, at least the project isn't standing still.

Looks like they have laid the foundation for the Church or the Shine.

Passed the construction site today on my way to Moore, Pete did a great job on his pics.

You can see the back of the construction activity with the highest towers of the church being visible before you reach 89th Street from I-35, it's impressive. This means once you see the concrete encase the skeletal steel structure, this Basilica will look much like a giant Cathedral with more height in south Oklahoma City right before you pass the classic car parts strip mall.

Hope this doesn't become a distraction to drivers on I-35 south/north between Oklahoma City and Moore.

Might be a good area to consider building the MAPS 4 multi-purpose stadium; convince the owners of the surface parking from the Basilica and the adjacent businesses near by that they could profit by using their lots.

The Steel Frame appears to be up. When I passed the area Saturday, you can see the steel frame portion of the Basilica right before you reach 89th Street traveling I-35 south. The steel two front tower portions have reached full height (topped out), ready to be filled.

i happened to be going south on shields from 89th this saturday and saw the frame for myself. the drone pictures don't really convey the scale of the artificial hill toward the west end of the property... it's probably 30 feet tall with a winding path to the top.

Is that artificial hill part of the project or is it just temporary?

it has to be part of the project... it has a path that corkscrews to the top, it's sodded, and has large landscaping boulders integrated into it.

Its part of the shrine to Our Lady of Guadalupe. The vision took place on a hill and that hill is a shrine to that vision of the Virgin Mary in Mexico that led to the conversion of the Aztecs. Devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe is very popular especially among Hispanic Catholics.

Looks impressive, but are they considering buying (and later demolishing) all the commercial buildings facing I-35?
