Thread: Where to buy dried chorizo in OKC?

Default Where to buy dried chorizo in OKC?

I want to make Cuban picadillo -- a spicy ground beef dish -- and need dried chorizo.

This is common in Spain and Cuba and different than the Mexican variety which is usually raw and much more loose... This is a cured meat almost like salami.

So, Mexican stores are usually not a good source.

Any ideas? Probably would need to be a South American specialty store of some sort.

Check with Forward Foods or International Pantry in Norman.

    Or maybe Makola Market.

And if you don't need it for a few days..... Lots of it on Amazon

Yeah... Their website lists chorizo from Spain... doesn't say if dried or not.

Yep, they have a wide variety of cured meat so wouldn't be surprised if they had it on hand.

That's got to be it because the only type of chorizo from Spain is the dried/cured type.

    Really appreciate all the feedback!

Also goes to show how diverse OKC is these days.

Have you ever had good Cuban picadillo? I had a Cuban friend in L.A. who used to make it and it was always wonderful.

It's this interesting combination of spicy and sweet flavors. Mainly ground beef but also with olives and raisins served with white rice and a side of fried plantains.

I'll trade you a batch for some of your brisket!

Unfortunately my experience with Cuban food has been limited to poorly made Cubanos... Even when I was in Florida for my honeymoon I didn't get to try anything, well I had a poorly made cubano at a Disney park, because my wife was a picky eater (I've since broken her of that bad quality)..... Picadillos sounds like something I would definitely love to try... So we might just be able to work out a deal here!

Ataf will get you whatever you need! Mediterranean Deli is still a true gem, even with the expanded grocery options we've gotten over the past decade...
