And I believe he was performing non-flying duties, so I'm sure your uncle wasn't teaching Jr. anything in regards to flying.
No, he didn't sit on it, he was quoted in a number of news articles at the time. And Bush Jr was a pilot so my uncle would have seen him. My uncle was NOT guard, he was just stationed as the full time instructor at a very small base. Bush never showed up.

My uncle is the retired Air Force Colonel quoted in this article in the NYT from 2004.

Says he was suspended from flying in Spring of 72, and never flew again. He was in Alabama first in Fall of 72. I don't know how the guard works obviously, but I presume that if one is suspended from flying again, that they would likely not attend flight training.

It means you have to go though flight training to regain your wings. Which would have been done with my uncle. And do read the NYTs article, Bush didn't just not fly, he never showed up.

As an AIR FORCE VET myself I want to thank and salute your dad. He is one the original bad asses that made it possible for young Airmen like us to come in and keep it going. As far as bush is concerned, Im neither a Dem or republican, although I didn't like him while he was president and have a severe disdain for those who dodge or false claim about serving I must admit I have grown to admire his attempt to stand up to the incredibly immoral #45. Bush may not have served his country in the military but his rebuke of #45 and his despicable lies and agitation of culture wars, false patriotism, and hiring of white nationalists earns him some stripes in my book;especially when several republican cowards in Washington are scared to do so.

Thank you. It's actually my uncle, my mom's bother. And her father as well. He was a career officer too. He started flying in WWII when it was the Air Corp and served until Vietnam.

No, I didn't serve. My uncle is very much still alive, he just retired from teaching at Auburn as a second career. I have a few of my grandfathers things but not much. He was not what you would call a sentimental man and didn't really save a lot of stuff and most of what he did save went to his second wife and not to his kids when he passed.

Last week wasn't exactly a good week for a few non-vetting types in the media either.

I've told the story of the boy crying wolf to my kids many times. It seems some in the media may need it recited to them as well.

Oh so true and new info comes out nearly every day about fake news and media reporting it as true. See this evenings reporting of anti-Trump rallies organized by Russian social media just to sew more discontent.

Fake news used to be stuff like the Onion. Now its just anything that doesn't confirm our own understanding of the world. As a nation we're on the highway to bliss.

We studied thousands of anonymous posts about the Parkland attack — and found a conspiracy in the making

Interesting look at how fake news and conspiracy is incubated on anonymous message boards and bubbles up into popular talking points.

I hate to even post this here. Not really sure what the reputation of Sharyl Attkisson is anymore. At minimum the government initially corroborated her claim that she was hacked by federal government computers. But then according to this article at least the story has changed. Extremely troubling if true. IG tampering with evidence is a monumental deal in my book.

Very, very disturbing. Brings to mind how bad OK (and maybe OKC) is at responding to FOIA or Open Records requests - sometimes never responding to them with no fear of consequences, so what can we do when we've exhausted that route, try to sue for information or just give up? Disheartening, to say the least, when the watchdog and supposed uncompromise-able IG-type agencies do things like the article says.

Even more than just the IG ignoring her, her attorneys/investigators are claiming the IG switched hard drives on her computer. So they now don't even have the original hard drive to her computer that was the center of the investigation (or so they claim). Hopefully she has enough resources to see this thing out. I figure in most cases, ignoring will work, and eventually the "problem" will go away.

The hard drive switching is interesting (and probably somewhat criminal, tampering with evidence, as you said). I would've turned it back on just to see what was going on, but then again, I'm a UNIX systems admin, not a journalist, just strange that she just "stored it". Wonder what's on the new hard drive - is it a clone of the old one, or just some random one, or a clean one or a cloned one with evidence removed or .....

Total guess on my part but I would guess that it would be a near mirror image except without anything incriminating on it. They only noticed by comparing serial numbers, which apparently the feds are too lazy to have noticed.

Again, this could all be nothing. So take it for what its worth.

I know this totally doesn't go here, but I didn't want to start a new thread for this one story, which I think is really intriguing, and wholly expected.

As some of you may have already heard, there was this biotech firm named Theranos that was the darling of Sand Hill Road for a while (their female CEO in particular). After receiving roughly 675 million in equity funding from multiple firms, Wall Street Journal ran a front page piece in October of 2014 that basically outed the company as having massively overstated their revenue potential, and the fact that it appeared they were using another company's devices as their own. This is after dozens of VC firms had board members @ Theranos and apparently never got wind of anything. To boot, in May of 2017 they secured $582M in secondary market funding from an angel investor and then another $100M in debt from Fortress in December, well after many of the claims the Wall Street Journal had made had bee proven ten times over.

I just think it is interesting because Venture Capitalist are often viewed as the smartest of the smart. I have long had a suspicion that there are only about a dozen or so real game changers in the industry and the rest are pretty much just hanger-oners, hoping to catch the crumbs left in the wake of the high flyers. Group think is real and it exists in Silicon Valley I would say even more than Wall Street.

You should always question who is deciding what is fake news, and how they go about it. Which is why I find it problematic that "platforms" have taken it upon themselves to decide. Unless of course they aren't platforms anymore, which may be the case.

    https://www.dailywire.com/news/29803...ut-ben-shapiro

An article on Sunday about Campbell Brown’s role as Facebook’s head of news partnerships erroneously included a reference to Palestinian actions as an example of the sort of far-right conspiracy stories that have plagued Facebook. In fact, Palestinian officials have acknowledged providing payments to the families of Palestinians killed while carrying out attacks on Israelis or convicted of terrorist acts and imprisoned in Israel; that is not a conspiracy theory.

Now this is an example of (exposing) fake news:

Drew Cloud Is a Well-Known Expert on Student Loans. One Problem: He’s Not Real.

Aside from this person being made up, it's also a site that completely clouds the true intent of the content creators (to refinance student loans).

This and the Joy Reid debacle that really shouldn't be. Good grief.

So in regards to the Cohen wire tapping that NBC walked back later due to bad sources (the porn peddler's attorney apparently), I found it really weird that ABC actually confirmed the story after NBC lead it, but before NBC retracted it. What exactly did ABC confirm?
