    New research labs being built.

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University will break ground on a new laboratory building that’s funded in part by an anonymous donation of $1 million.

The university says the gift and a matching $1 million contribution from the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology will allow them to begin work for the new engineering and technology lab for undergraduate students.

OSU says enrollment in engineering programs has doubled at the university in the past decade and the funding allows for the development of modern laboratories that provide hands-on education at the school.

The building will house 14 undergraduate research labs, a lecture hall and student-project space.

The university plans to break ground on the project Saturday.

Construction is well along on the new OSU Spears School of Business building. It's size and style hard to miss.

    Time for new project photos.

OSU McKnight Center for the Performing Arts https://statemagazine.okstate.edu/McKnight_Center

Some years ago, plans called for extending 3rd Ave. to the strip. But OSU nixed that with their new McKnight Center(shown) and new parking garage(not shown). On the far left, the brick front is where the Hideaway used to be, now a coffee shop.

More to come to solely concentrate on Stillwater projects.

It's not. Block 34 is still being discussed. I wish they could sell it to a proven successful private developer, rather than continue to agonize over how it should be publicly developed.

Projects in the city of Stillwater:

On the Strip, the State Room of Willies got a mural over the upper front.

As seen from Willies, at the heart of the Strip, mid rise apartments are still under construction hardly a block away.

A closer look. Who knows how much real estate values have gone up around here during the past several years.

Off the beaten path for non locals, a look at the first of three recently completed buildings on Stillwater Regional Medical Center's new south campus on W. 12th.

Medical services the above building, the biggest one, offers.

    Total Aquatics Fitness Center

    Cimarron Medical Services.

At Stillwater Regional Hospital, Stillwater Cancer Center is under construction on W. 6th. https://www.ocsri.org/breaking-new-g...ter-expansion/

Now to the opposite side of town, the new Wendy's near N. Perkins Rd. and Lakeview is about ready to open. The nearly 40 year old Wendy's on W. 6th will be torn down and replaced on site with a new one.

New Wendy's drive-in view. Near there to the south, not pictured, a new dentist office is under construction. Also nearby, not pictured, is the Academy Sports & Outdoors and next to it Wal-Mart Neighborhood Center. Both opened not too long ago.

The new Pizza Hut. It was torn down and replaced by a new one last summer.

Construction of the new Raising Cane is well along on N. Perkins Rd. It's into chicken. It rose up in the same place Applebee's was torn down. Interesting they would locate across the street from Chick-Fil-a. In the same area but not pictured, remodeling the building for Five Guys Burgers is finally under way.

Construction of a new building for Northern Oklahoma College's Stillwater branch campus has started. It's across the street from the north edge of OSU.

Stillwater Islam and Mosque Center. Opened last year. It's also across from the north edge of the OSU campus.

More pictures to come, perhaps in a few days. Several of downtown will be in the works.

No doubt, Stan Clark, owner of Eskimo Joe's, loves news of another new apartment complex near him. Most people should love it that it isn't going to be on N. Perkins Rd. Hopefully, the developer has a good reputation for quality construction. At least one plan for an apartment complex has been rejected before in part due to the developer having poor feedback in other towns it was in.

Thanks for posting all the updates.

I really need to get out of my office and take photos more often.

It will be interesting to see if the planning commission approves the new apartment complex. We really need to encourage the owners on The Strip, Campus Corner and down Knoblock to bring in more businesses. Retail and restaurantsare needed in this area.

Ugh, the comments on this article. I know, dont read the comments. Its like none of those who commented have ever heard of market forces or consumer demand. They also dont seem to get the fact that this apartment will bring in exponentially more ad valorem dollars than what is currently there.

    The comments were mind-numbingly stupid.

Unfortunately, Stillwater has a number of people who want to keep the old as is. One elderly woman has been writing long winded commentaries in the local paper about the need to protect the residential neighborhood at 12th and Western from commercial rezoning. Earlier she helped lead a successful campaign to continue making do with keeping the old junior high downtown as the community center. Other people, including myself, thought it should be torn down and replaced with an actual community center, like they did in Enid. Probably not a too bad decision, though, because if a newly built community center required raising the city sales tax from a vote, citizens probably would have rejected it.

I don't mind the plans for the apartment complex, if it comes with a good developer. It simply comes with living in a college town and the after effect of OSU buying and clearing out a large ghetto area where mostly students lived. But would rather the developers construct the exterior of the parking garage to make it look like apartments, rather than an obvious eyesore of an ugly multi-level parking garage.

More pictures starting with downtown area:

This building at 9th & Lewis has needed a facelift for a long time. Looking for tenants as completion nears.

Across the street, another remodeling job has led to a coffee shop, book shop and lofts for the 2nd floor. Surely, needs an awning.

Remodeling halted on this building at 7th and Main in 2015. Near there, not pictured, the Tombstone Bar is preparing to open. Maybe it will open in time for Halloween.

Controversial Block 34 has its own sign. Formerly, it was the site of a lumber yard and a plumbing store. City of Stillwater bought and cleared it in case it was needed for a new community center. Those plans were nixed and months later the city still doesn't know what to do with it. The mayor looked at several plans to make it an outdoor gathering spot, but she couldn't find the wow factor she was looking for. The city council relieved itself of that problem by forming a committee to study it. I think a private developer would do a better job, while providing tax revenue. Apparently, none are interested in acquiring the block. Stillwater Community Center is in background to the right.

Another view of Block 34 as seen from the community center.

Stillwater Agra Center's new store building just opened to replace the old one. Owned by Stillwater Milling Co.

An attractive new office building at 5th and Duck.

Elsewhere, the W. 6th view of new apartment construction near the strip. On the far right, the old Wendy's has been cleared off for construction on a new one.

The west side of the OSU campus now has newly completed 4 lane access on Western St. to the south entrance of Stillwater Regional Airport along with a new traffic light at McElroy.

Possibly real estate prices and leases have gone up so much in the areas, due to new apartment complex construction, that a lot of new businesses are going to be priced out of the market until prices come down. IGA got priced out of there. It would still be there, instead of Sprouts, if nothing new was going on. Not many businesses have the money Sprouts has.

I'm hoping for more retail on the ground floor of these apartment complexes. Not that we need another sandwich shop or nail salon, but you should be providing some sort of services. Especially with this so close to campus.

    To the west side:

SpringHill Suites Hotel at Bourbon Street Square off W. 6th. Other picture is how it will look when finished.

FFO store, also at Bourbon Street. Opened for around 6 months. It's kinda lonely here from much empty space left for more stores. Jimmie John's is supposed to start construction soon.

New St Francis Xavier Catholic Church under construction at N. Country Club Rd and McElroy. Other picture is when finished. Expected opening date is Feb. 4th.

Correction. New office building photo from a previous posting is at 4th and Duck, not 5th and Duck.

Word is that construction has halted midway on one of the apartment complexes near the strip with company considering walking away from it.

Meanwhile, the proposed 7 story apartment complex got approved by the city planning commission with final approval to go before the city council.

Attaching a submitted rendering for the 7-story complex. I was really hoping for retail on the first floor, especially since the largest side fronts Duck St. If land wasn't expensive and someone was smart they would add more retail on The Strip and Campus Corner. With ~1,500 more beds coming we need more restaurants and shopping.
