Opening This Weekend

Yeah I am excited about this place - I drove by after work yesterday and it looks fantastic. They're got a big side yard patio with a small music stage, picnic benches, and lawn games. I love the preservation of the trees on this lot as well. The entire outside seating area is pretty much completely tree covered.
Salt Lick BBQ Grapevine To Open Soon
Project Location
There will be approximately 515 seats overall.
The seating will be split into three main areas—208 seats in the barn, 199 seats near Denton Creek and 108 seats in the cellar. At the restaurant’s Driftwood location there is a wine cellar adjacent to the restaurant where guests can enjoy a glass a wine while being surrounded by the same vines that produced the wine.
A representative for Salt Lick BBQ, Silver Garza, said there are plans for the Grapevine location to have one as well.Garza said the restaurant will use water-quality measures such as rainwater collection and filtration.
The restaurant will also feature gravel lots instead of paved lots as a way to control the collection of rainwater.
Garza said there are also plans to have a trail leading to the restaurant from Denton Creek.Salt Lick BBQ is expected to be complete in late 2018.
I asked the same question earlier in the thread and got no answer. However, when the Rangers and CO Rockies played earlier this year, they made the comment that Coors Field in Denver is a year older and Denver wouldn't think of a new stadium yet. They said the main reason is The Rangers want to play more day games. I can personally attest that it is too hot this time of year for day games in DFW when I lived there so they want a retractable roof. They said the stadium would be very similar to Reliant in Houston.
The primary reason, at least in my book, is definitely to have a retractable roof. I live in Arlington (and voted in favor of the new stadium) and will only go to Ranger games currently in April/May. It just gets way too hot in June, July, and August to sit in a stadium with no airflow coming in - the hot air is quite stagnant and makes for a really unenjoyable experience (especially when the Rangers are as bad as they are this year haha).
DFW Airport Receives DOT Commitment for $180 Million

Project Location
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport received a Letter of Intent from the Federal Aviation Administration committing up to $180 million in Airport Improvement Program grant funding for two end-around taxiway systems. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao delivered the Letter of Intent to the Airport in person, underscoring the importance of investing in airport infrastructure.
The next phase of the end-around taxiways is already under construction on DFW’s northeast quadrant, with completion anticipated by 2021. DFW Airport’s southwest quadrant taxiway is expected to be built by 2023. The federal funding included in the Letter of Intent could cover up to half of the overall cost of the next two phases.End-around taxiways enable arriving aircraft to taxi around DFW’s seven active runways rather than wait to cross them. The taxiways enhance safety because they virtually eliminate runway crossings, reducing the risk of possible incursions. End-around taxiways ultimately produce gains in runway efficiency and reduce overall taxi times for arriving aircraft.
The taxiway projects are a key part of DFW’s overall 10-year infrastructure improvement plan, which includes enhancing or rebuilding runways, roadways, bridges and other major infrastructure needs on the Airport grounds.
Separately, Secretary Chao also delivered a $31 million AIP grant for the rehabilitation of Runway 17-C at the Airport. Construction on Runway 17-C is scheduled to be complete in 2019, with minimal disruption to customers.
I went to Tipsy Oak a couple of times last week - definitely a great new place to hang out...it's shaded most of the day because of the existing large oak trees on the property. The food is pretty fantastic too...its gastropub/ice house style foods - they're working on opening for brunch in the next few weeks as well.
I believe the first phase of the Texas Live development near the new Rangers stadium is opening this week too.

Northland Properties - which is headed by Stars' owner Tom Gaglardi - bought the 20-story WT Waggoner Building in downtown Fort Worth from XTO Energy Inc.
Built in 1921, the Chicago-style brick and stone high-rise has almost 120,000 square feet of office space and was renovated in 2003.

The company is expanding its Sandman Hotel Group, Moxie's Grill & Bar and Shark Club Sports Bar & Grill to Texas.
"The historical relevance of the WT Waggoner Building makes this the perfect hotel asset for us," Gaglardi said in a statement. "With the opening of our first hotel in Plano in the next few weeks, we are excited to continue to expand throughout Texas, and we think Fort Worth is a fantastic market for us to grow into."

A 4-star hotel and a Shake Shack are coming to the Stockyards. And that’s not all.
Hotel Drover, a new 4-star Marriott Autograph boutique hotel, along with an outpost of the popular Shake Shack chain were among the announcements made Thursday by Stockyards Heritage Development Company, a partnership between Majestic Realty Co. and The Hickman Companies.Hotel Drover, which is being described as “a rustic resort,” will help anchor the redevelopment of Mule Alley that will include “shops, eateries, creative office spaces and live-entertainment venues,” according to the Stockyards developers.
“We would rather take a risk with an inventive tenant than play it safe with a chain that brings little to the table,” said Craig Cavileer, executive vice president of Majestic Realty Co./Stockyards Heritage Development Company. “We’re not looking to overly commercialize the Stockyards, we’re looking to make it even more exciting and broaden its appeal for locals as well as guests from Texas, the U.S. and around the world.”
The project, a public/private partnership with the City of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, just broke ground on the first phase of the $175 million development.
It's been a while since we've had an update on Arlington:
- Texas Live is open and the new hotel Live by Loews should be opening soon as well next door to Texas Live
- Urban Union continues to grow as a district in downtown Arlington - new restaurants and retail keep opening up (Hurtado BBQ, Cane Rosso, The Hive) and phase 2 buildings along Front Street parallel to the train tracks should be starting soon. It will be 2 story buildings with retail/office on the bottom and office/residential on top.
- Retail is coming online at 101 Center (Inclusion Coffee and Frost Bank)
- Park Place mixed-use development is going up quickly - no word on retail/office leases yet...but I imagine the residential will fill up quickly
- Main7 Townhomes on the NE corner of Abram/Cooper will be starting construction soon. It'll be the first, new, urban for-sale housing in downtown Arlington in quite a long time.
- Abram Street reconstruction (and road diet) is looking great - they're just over halfway done so we'll finally have a walkable main street.
- Small-scale retail/office continues to come in/out of various surrounding small buildings throughout downtown - quite a bit of activity overall
I live in Arlington now (born and raised there...came to OU for college and stayed in OKC for almost 10 years). It's absolutely insane how different downtown/UTA area is.
Totally - I'm relatively new to Arlington (5 years). From OKC, went to OU, relocated here after college for work. It's amazing how it's changed just in the 5 years that I've been here. Downtown Arlington has so much potential because of the old street network grid already in place to support walkable development - which we are now getting.
Arlington, TX: New convention center, hotel, and new mixed-use development coming adjacent to the new Rangers ballpark and the blossoming scene in the entertainment district. Check out the article for renderings.

"Before Tuesday’s vote, Cordish Companies principal Reed Cordish showed renderings of the Stadium Lofts project that will be adjacent to Texas Live. It’ll include 280 residential units, retail, restaurants and a business incubator called Spark. The coworking space will be modeled after one Cordish built in Baltimore that includes more than 150 companies, according to the company."
"The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to move forward with incentive agreements that will put a $550 million Loews hotel and an attached 150,000-square-foot convention center in motion. The 880-room hotel would be more than twice the size of a Live! by Loews hotel that recently opened across the street."

FORT WORTH — Fort Worth city officials have approved a $440 million package of tax incentives for electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian Automotive, saying the company's proposal to build a $5 billion factory would forever change the landscape of the once-rural western side of the city.
In return, Rivian would create 7,500 jobs by 2027, which would make it one of the largest employers in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. The California company is looking at several cities for its proposed manufacturing plant, although Fort Worth is considered a front-runner.
