The 2-1/2 mile back track to the east only to have to get off at 152 and run back west to Hwy 4 and then south to 44 was kind of sad. But once on I-44 Chickasha wasn’t too far off. So it wound up being a nice drive that I enjoyed much better than driving down 44 through the south side of the city, I HATE going that way. I don’t think there was much time savings, if any, but this new route, even with the few hiccups is much better.
so the Edmond to 152 section is now open aswell?

I actually got on at I-35 because I just happed to be over there, and drove all the way around to the new section and got off at 152 where it swings south to by the airport to go into Mustang. On the way back however there was no access yet to Kilpatrick, so I had to take the "old" way back on 152/Airport road to I-44.

And even if not, I'm a big fan of taking 12 minutes to go 12 miles over taking 10 minutes to go 5 miles. I'm more than willing to go out of my way and waste a small amount of time to avoid sitting in traffic lol.

The signs still indicate it's not fully open - just to SW 59th St.

I drove southbound from 40 a couple days ago. You're forced to exit near 59th Street. It's practically all done except where it connects with 152. As long as weather cooperates, I'd say we're less than a couple months from completion.

The SW one by the airport isn’t done yet. They still have a fair bit to do on the roads leading to the Council Rd bridges.

I believe the Kickapoo turnpike will begin opening in 2021. Not sure when but I imagine the earlier part of the year it will open in phases would be my guess.

Kickapoo Turnpike will have 80 mph speed limit in some portions. All
Portions will be open in early 2021

    https://www.lutherregister.news/2020...h-speed-limit/

What’s the status of the Southeast loop to connect Kickapoo to Hwy 9 in Norman?

Can someone educate me on Why this turnpike is needed and how it improves/shortens access to I-40? Looking at the map it just doesn’t seem to make sense

I think eventually it will join up with highway 9 and create an OKC bypass (probably wrong, can't remember)

I think that’s the eventual plan but I don’t believe they have started any kind of planning for the section south of I-40. I imagine it would roughly follow Luther Rd and connect to Hwy 9, which would also be upgraded. This is probably at least 5 years out though.

I know a few years back there was talk ( rumors so take it with a grain of salt ) about widening hwy 9 in norman all the way to thunderbird casino and have it set up to easily change to a turnpike and have a turnpike from hwy 9 and peebly road area build up to connect to the interstate 40.

this is correct if you look at the kickapoo I40 interchange they built the full bridge over I-40 for the future extension to highway 9

internal planning with the turnpike authority has mapped out a good chunk of the next bond issue construction

2 of those thing are the extension of the kickapoo to highway 9 (phase 3 will be from highway 9 to I35 )

and the next phase of the Turner expansion

expansion of highway 9 to the cleavand county line and into Pottawatomie is on the current ODOT 8 year plan

Good to hear they are starting to plan for the connection to Norman. It doesn’t really make a lot of sense without that link to Hwy 9/I-35.

I do wonder which current grade intersections will remain in Norman and be rebuilt into interchanges,

Per OkDOT part of the new Kickapoo turnpike will open soon. I think more will be revealed during their October commission meeting which they usually release the updated 8 year plan in as well.

Noticed that Google Maps just recently added the Kickapoo Turnpike route, which is sort of weird considering it's not open yet, and they still haven't changed the SW Kilpatrick extension (which is open) to limited access shading, it has the same shading as any regular surface street.

Got a question about the Kickapoo Turnpike, I know there is plans to expand it south of I 40 to highway 9 and eventually to I 35, are there plans to expand it north of I 44 to I 35 north of Edmond, I know if they do, it had to go around Luther.
