Anyone else spotted the aluminum shingles going up on the west corner?

I was just getting ready to post about that. I know that's not the finished product, curious what it is...

uhhhhhhhhh, yeah. I'm not sure how I feel about that. At least it will be unique I guess. Hope they don't have too much glare. Could start fires in all directions next summer, lol.

As long as none of the building surfaces are the right sort of concave shape I suspect there won't be a repeat of that highrise heat beam of doom issue.

I was thinking the same thing. During the heat of the summer it will probably cook the trees and parked cars that are in close proximity.

Can't tell from the photo... Is the finish more matte or shiny. Looks more like brushed and would be less of a glare.

Yeah, it's shiny but not overly so.

I admire the ambition of doing something unique vs. stucco or brick.

And for doing it in such a highly visible location.

Hmmm...yes indeed. I always admired the renderings but the real thing seems so much more...metal...more shiny than expected. Full disclosure...I have only seen pictures so far. I am hoping for the best and I always applaud builders who are willing to try new things.

Looks awesome, but rain and hailstorms will be LOUD.

How intense is it going to reflect the sun?

This could be brutal to drive by early in the morning.

I drove by as the sun was setting yesterday evening. The glare was definitely strong, though probably not as strong as it could be and didn't come anywhere near making me uncomfortable driving down 16th. The saving grace is/will be that I have to imagine the length of time there will be any meaningful glare will be minimal due to the trees, houses, etc. providing cover while driving east on 16th. Also can't imagine it will be that distracting going N/S on Classen for similar reasons and that I don't think cars will ever really be driving directly into the glare in the mornings given how the building is situated and the location of the sunrise. Once the sun gets high enough I doubt it'll present any significant issues. If I lived in one of the houses directly across Classen I would probably not be as optimistic, however.

But personally - I think it looks great!

I drive by this often and I am anxious to see if this material looks as good as im hoping it will. This project is almost perfect imo. It activates Classen while being an inviting entrance to the plaza. It is going to add some retail to the area and put a lot more people within walking distance to everything in the plaza.

16th Street between Classen and the plaza is sizzling right now with new development.

It is pretty cool and different. No EFIS or Dry-Vit here. Maybe over time it will develop the soft patina of a vintage Airstream trailer.

Now that a bunch of the shingles are up, they aren't that shiny; I can't imagine they will cause any reflection problems.

Beins shingles and not a large solid reflective surface helps as well.. and I love the way it looks!

Almost exactly what I was going to say. But did you mean it figuratively or literally?
