A massive hill/overpass here is going to be such an eyesore/barrier. I still can't believe we're doing it. In hindsight, given the design of the west end of the boulevard anyway, it might have been better for a small stretch of it to have been below grade so that the grid streets could have remained at grade. Oh well I guess.

Yes, that overpass is pretty substantial:

I am sure it will be very exciting to walk under that totally-not-going-to-be-sketchy underpass to get into the Farmers Market District.

Thanks I've been meaning to take a picture of that mound of dirt that I see every morning.

It's depressing to watch poor planning go up and know it will be a deterrent to growth in this area for generations.

In Pete's picture upthread (post 525) I'm trying to imagine the sightlines, but I'm pretty sure one or more of those apartments are going to be able to sit on their balconies and watch concerts through the roof of Jones Assembly's side yard.

Maybe that's why they're installing a retractable roof.

Does anybody know if there will be plans for the underpass to be well lit?

There are ways to make it more desirable to walk through, such as detailed signs for where you are going & also to light dark areas with preferably ornamental & functional lights.

I asked about this recently and was told it is almost done being fabricated, so should see it start to be installed soon.

Whether he remembers it or not is another story, but way back during the public meetings I asked Eric Wenger if the underpasses would be pedestrian friendly and he said they would be. We'll see.

Maybe it will be so friendly that they install robotic arms on the support columns that reach out and give you hugs as you walk through.

$80 million of taxpayer money for that monstrosity. God willing we’ll see it torn up within 20 years.

Overpass and pedestrian friendly are pretty much contradictory. They can make efforts to make it less psychologically intimidating, but almost all overpasses are unfriendly to pedestrians.

Now now, are these consensual hugs? We don’t want OKC to be known for the first #metoo robot incident.

You can see that they are close to finishing and reopening Fred Jones Ave.

Are they still planning to string the lights over the street between Jones and West Village like in all the renderings?

    Yes, I believe so.

Building D in the southeast corner will be the first to be occupied this fall. Building B to the immediate north will take a bit longer.

It seems both buildings will need to be complete before they can string the lights.

Personally I feel like they had a great opportunity to add a public plaza like these between the jones and building B & D.

Along with Stitch, the Plants Shop and the bodega going in Building D, I think that's a wrap for all the commercial space in West Village apart from some small office space along Sheridan.

They ended up cutting all the retail space at the corner of Classen & Main.

Could have sworn I read something saying that was going to be pedestrian-only. Obviously not - though I believe that would have been a cool opportunity.

too bad they cut the corner of classen/sheridan, would have been perfect for a 7-11 or similar convenience store.

Y dont we have any of these anywhere in downtown???

There are a few but mainly old leftovers:

Circle K at Reno & Lincoln
Shell at NW 6th & Walker
2 places on Classen at Sheridan and Reno
Downtown Plaza at NW 11th & Broadway

But all on the edges and none really used by people walking around downtown.

Still wish that CVS deal would have come together at the Century Center.

And remember, there will be a bodega-type place in West Village between Stitch and the Plant Shoppe.

And Vice Liquor in the Avana complex is a nice little store.
