Thread: Development that will make Dallas and KC Jealous?

  1. #1

Default Development that will make Dallas and KC Jealous?

I know this was not to be taken literally, but I'm just trying to think of what it could possibly be. People went apesh!t over that, and really, rightfully so. There is quite a bit that could make Kansas City jealous, but when you throw a city like Dallas into the mix, things get tricky real quick. He said it was entertainment oriented.

I wonder myself, what it could be. A massive mixed use outdoor mall? Dallas has those, a bunch of them. A mall such as this would have to be pretty damn impressive to top whatever Dallas has.

Perhaps the Lumber Yard tower project? I could see that making Dallas sort of jealous even though they have some high-rise towers. But, Steve has already said his confidence in this project isn't high as he has not seen anything that would indicate this is serious proposal, so that would kind of contradict that.

Perhaps a large roller coaster or amusement ride? Maybe one of the biggest Ferris Wheels in the country?

Perhaps a special movie theater of some kind built into a large entertainment style mall sort of like the Chinese Theater on Hollywood BLVD?

A world class aquarium maybe? Although, that would likely be more of a public venture, wouldn't it?

Is the formula one race car circuit coming back into play maybe?

There's already a Medieval Times and Ripley's Museum in Dallas(Palace of Wax), not sure about KC.

I know this is a stretch, but could we possibly be getting a movie studio or something?

Maybe a small amusement park? A fun park with a couple small rides and a go-cart track?

A spaceport. To Jupiter. That'd make Dallas jealous.

BTW, I will not be disappointed if isn't a big as what it sounds like. I trust Steve and he really seems like a well-balanced and reasonable person, so whatever it is, it must be significant. Even if it isn't something that would have Dallas drooling with envy, it could be something that would make Dallas jealous in the sense of someone noticing it from there and just saying 'wish we had that here', but nothing major.

Yeah, it would. Being smack dab in the middle of Bricktown, I bet it would make people jealous who live there of people who don't.

I said it a while back, but I always thought it would have been extremely cool to turn Crossroads into a movie studio.

    WRONG.

Crossroads should be a go cart paintball war zone.

I think it must have something to do with the Chesapeake arena.

Think about it, this is probably the ONLY area where OKC has a chance to make both KC and Dallas jealous. Not saying that they are jealous NOW, but if there were some sort of 'LA Live type complex added to the Peake - THAT would make both cities jealous since they don't have anything of the sort to my knowledge.

I've never been to the complex in LA, but Power and Light is right across the street from the Sprint Center. The two are almost as close as they can be without being physically attached. Obviously KC doesn't have a pro team playing in the Sprint Center, but it's a fun environment when the Big 12 tournament or a concert is in town.

Well, unless the Bricktown location wasn't meant to be exact, I'm not sure this would fall into Bricktown.

Kansas City used to have a Medieval Times back in the '90s but its not there anymore.

Somebody in one of the subsequent chats asked if it would be something similar to KC's Power and Light district and Steve responded that it would be better in his opinion. I really think OKC could use a nightlife and entertainment complex like that with maybe some residential thrown in and hope that what is being tracked is something of the sort. I think something like that would also be realistic for a city like OKC.

This is pretty much how I interpreted the line. A lot of people have hyped it up to the point that nothing realistic could live up to the expectation. I don't believe that to be the case though and whatever it is, if it happens, should be an amazing score for OKC.

So, the Chisholm Creek area is being developed by Medallion Management in OKC and Endeavor Real Estate Group out of Austin. Austin has a pretty great music scene, we all know. What if they are luring a music promo group out of Austin to set lease space and up a venue in OKC? Not necessarily at CC, but somewhere else in the metro. That is definitely something that would make Dalllas and KC jealous.

I know that Austin group is working hard to put together a music venue at Chisholm Creek.

Could the proposed Velodrome be the thing that makes Dallas/KC jealous? The proposed area was south of I-40, north of the river. It is entertainment based and could fall under the area of Bricktown, if you want to extend it that far south.

I almost have to think it has to do with the lot in front of The Chevy (I am going to start calling it that now and hope it catches on.) Steve have stated multiple times on his chat that there is no hope in the COOP being sold until the sellers drop the price, so I think that area is out. There are other open parking lots in Bricktown, but most of them are owned by Randy Hogan or Brewer who refuse to develop them. The parking lot in front of The Chevy is owned by the Redhawks (if I remember correctly) and could be bought and developed for the right price.

So when is the announcement suppose to be for this?

Steve said in his chat on 10/10/2014:

Mark - 10:49 a.m. So the “Jealousy Project” is still in the works? Do you see it being announced next year possibly if it happens?

    Steve Lackmeyer - 10:49 a.m. Yep. Yep.

Can anyone who is in the know i.e. Pete confirm if this project has been mentioned or rumored yet or is it something nobody knows anything about? For example, could it be something like the Velodrome that is rumored but not officially announced?

Steve has said no one has got even close to guessing it. The Velodrome has already been rumored, so I don't see any point in maintaining secrecy about it. So we can figure it's probably not that. Pete has mentioned that he knows (or thinks he knows) what development Steve is talking about. So there's something out there.

I honestly have no idea what it could be.

That's what I thought. I almost posted it but didn't. Are there any other cities in the US that have a Velodrome?

There are several, but most of them are old:

List of cycling tracks and velodromes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One is in Frisco, TX, which is a suburb of Dallas, so if might rule that out as well.

Here are the developments that have been put out as possibilities that it definitely ISN'T.

    -Stage Center Complex
    -Velodrome
    -Wheeler District
    -Bricktown Events Center (Chevy)
    -Criterion Concert Hall
    -Canopy Hotel
    -White Water Center
    -Lumberyard Complex
    -Bricktown Flyer

Again, that leads me to believe it has something to do with the parking lot in front of The Chevy.

Also, you can rule out the COOP because the owners are asking too much and aren't going down on the price.

Going out on a limb here, but maybe a museum to Oklahoma City's favorite son, star of stage and screen Lon Cheney Jr. Yes, the Wolfman was born here.

No? Okay, I figured that was a stretch. But we still need something to honor the only man to play all 4 classic Universal movie monsters (Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy).

Another thing a lot of people thought it might be is that Bricktown Flyer ride that probably isn't going to happen at this point. I added it to the list of projects that it is not.
