Thread: Location of this photo from 1937?

  1. #1

Default Location of this photo from 1937?

A friend of mine posted this online asking where the location may be today. I told her I knew just the community to answer the question. She says her grandparents owned a photography studio and there is a stack of photos like this. I know you all appreciate these nostalgic photos as much as I do, so I figured I'd share.

O.K. Stamp & Seal was at 118 W. Grand, which is now known as Sheridan.

In present day, this would be the site of the Cox Convention Center; the north side that faces Sheridan just west of Broadway. The Sheraton is directly across the street (where the photographer would have been standing).

    Cool photo! Thanks for sharing.

I visited the stamp store sometime before 1940 and my parents bought me a "Superior" toy printing press there. It used rubber type to print on 3-inch-wide paper; I still had it in 1942 and used it then to print handbills for a tiny craft shop I was running out of my garage at the age of 11!!!

I'm almost positive that Jordan's is in one of the Oklahoma pictorial books and
that it's on Grand, which is now Sheridan. Hope this helps.

I LOVE this sort of thing. Thanks to the OP for sharing. (If I were to make a guess about the location it would be: The Old Location of the OHP? Somewhere downtown instead of way up there on Eastern near the Zoo? =) Again: Thanks for the photo.

P.S.: Wasn't Oklahoma Stamp and Seal over on Linwood at some point? Or was that a different Stamp and Seal place? I know I once had them design and obtain a custom ticket punch for me. The place I'm thinking of was just down the street (Linwood) from the place I used to take my transit/level to be re-calibrated. =)

The OHP was created in 1937. I suspect this photo shows the very first cadet class. At one time, I worked rather closely with a fellow from that group who wore badge number 7.

Since the Zoo is on Eastern why wasn't it called the Eastern Park Zoo?

Can't read the sign clearly on "Jordan's", but is that Jordan Desk Company?
