    Default What are you reading?

I'm reading Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. Talk about mesmerizing.

Has anyone read this? Does anyone care to have a discussion
    about is?

Please, don't search the Internet for what you're supposed to say. I
honestly want to have an intelligent discussion about this piece of
    fascinating literature.

Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. Book one of Raven's Shadow series. It is a re-read in anticipation of book two coming out in a few months.

Seems like I read Metamorphosis but need to check. Sorry, it is not coming to mind.

Sorry, can't say that I have read that book. Our good friend, Mr. Jim Kyle, has provided me with my Summer Reading List...Author, Lloyd C. Douglas. :-)

    Ishmael by Daniel Quinn

I'm reading a few books right now.

The Real Lincoln by Thomas DeLorenzo
The Revolution: A Manifesto by Ron Paul
    Coolidge by Amity Shlaes

and for my fantasy kick I'm about to start reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss

I remember reading about Metamorphosis in high school. I don't remember if I actually read the book or not. Kafka had a lot of serious problems.

And right now I'm reading House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It's very interesting but you have to set a lot of time aside to really focus on it. As a result it's slow progress.

Sycamore Row. (a gentleman, with whom I work and who is an avid reader, loaned it to me.)
I probably should be reading it right now instead of doing this . . . Its return is bordering on being overdue.

p.s.: I read Kafka's Klassic: Metamorphosis a couple of decades ago. It was as creepy as Eraserhead, in a different format.
Thankfully, I still hate actual cockroaches as much as I ever did, on account of I never did buy into that whole Disneyesque anthropomorphism/anti-anthropomorphism of animals thing in the first place. (except for those "animal charactered children's books in Second Grade, previously mentioned, and Animal Farm, later. Like, after 1984. =)

p.p.s.: at the risk of being redundant, it would be a good idea for anyone to put "The Mark Inside" (by Amy Reading) at the top their "To-Read" list.
just sayin' . . . (it lends a perspective to Human History that focuses right on down to America of the past to America Today and grinds no axes in so doing.)

At the moment OKCTALK. I've got Piketty's "Capital in the 21st Century" loaded on my kindle but I end up zombie reading it.

What do you mean by zombie reading? I'm just reading for enjoyment.
However, this is a very deep story (The Metamorphosis) and I'm digging it.

Whoa, do you mean you aren't searching Google to find out what you're
supposed to think about what you're reading?

I hope so. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

And, by the flip side of the same koan, "a waste is a terrible thing to mind" . . . is it not? =)

Have you read The Metamorphosis? I've found it to be quite enlightening.

I've read Kafka. He has a certain dark brilliance that makes me like reading about him more than his actual works. Though, The Metamorphosis is a true classic. Certain authors are like that for me, I love to read about them but are lukewarm toward their books. Sherwood Anderson is that way for me and Jack Kerouac is another.

I'm currently reading Colm Toibin's 2004 novel about Henry James - "The Master". Fictionalized biography at its best, really good. Also stepping into Picketty's "Capital". Paul Krugman wrote an excellent review of "Capital" for the New York Review of Books here. It's one of those books that can change the narrative about wealth & privilege in this country, clearly laying out the facts on how it's all about the top .05% vs everyone else. Krugman's review, by the way, is titled, "Why We're in a New Gilded Age."

I just finished reading William Shakespeare’s Star Wars. It was unbelievably good and funny. This should be in everyone's library.

William Shakespeare's Star Wars: Ian Doescher: 9781594746376: Amazon.com: Books

I see the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are also in print now so I will be getting those this week.

I listened to the sample of that. Sounds pretty good!

I'm reading Kafka's Metamorphosis. I've been laughing. Something tells
me it won't be funny in the future. Please don't ruin it for me.

A few other books I thought were humorous were:

    Animal Farm
    1984
    Brave New World

Boy, was I in for a shock.

Who has read the Mark Twain Classics? Huck and Tom? The Ram?

I'd like to have a conversation about them and not a google search.
Too many on these forums have never read. They can't possibly have
an intelligent conversation. It's not very difficult to know the difference.

I'm curious. Has anyone read "The Invisible Man" by Ralph Ellison? I
    believe most haven't.

I read The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells; does that count?
