Martin Nature Park’s Earth Fest offers eco-friendly family fun
(March 31, 2014) - Martin Park Nature Center is serving up a bounty of eco-friendly family fun during Earth Fest on Saturday, April 12 from 1-4 p.m.

Kids’ activities, education booths, a rain barrel give-away, alternative fuel cars and a special outdoor art exhibit are all part of the City’s Earth Month activities. Martin Park Nature Center is located at 5000 West Memorial Rd.

Kids’ can make their own terrariums and flower pots using recycled materials, feed the birds with bagel birdfeeders and make their own water cylcle bracelets. Mother Nature and Terry the Trashasaurus from OKC Beautiful will greet visitors and share their message about litter, while “Cycler” the Robot and the City’s own Wayne Drop will be on hand to talk about recycling and keeping our waterways clean.

Eco-enthusiasts of any age can learn about aquaponics, composting with worms, bee hive management and “Blue Thumb” water testing. Visitors can also learn about solar fabric dyeing and how to take part in online groups to track and monitor migrating bird and insects.

The City’s Fleet Management office will show off their CNG and electric-powered vehicles, and the Storm Water Quality office will raffle off a rain barrel.

Adventurous visitors may spy a few special fungi among the fallen logs and greening leaves of the Martin Park trails. The fungi are the work of fiber artist Leigh Martin, who creates colorful mushrooms that she knits by hand and then installs in the natural landscape. Martin created four installations exclusively for Martin Park, which will be on display throughout April.

For more information about Earth Fest, visit the City’s website at City of Oklahoma City | Parks & Recreation, or call Martin Park Nature Center at 755-0676.

Very nice! I love this park and swear by it that is one of OKC's most precious hidden natural treasures. For anyone who hasn't been, I highly encourage you to go try it.
