Thread: Dave Clark Five

    Default Dave Clark Five

Did anyone else catch this new documentary tonight on PBS.

The Dave Clark Five Documentary | Watch the Film | Great Performances | PBS

It was very well done and anyone who is fan of the music of that era will love it. I had no idea about the successful career that Dave Clark had after the band.

This is one of my all time favorite groups.

    Yes. I did.
I used to think they were better than The Beatles.
    I was wrong. =)

No, not better. They were very good adversaries though and had an astounding number of hits.

Billy Joe Kramer and The Dakotas. (nuff sed? =)

Edited to Add: That entire "British Invasion" era of Pop Music was a great break from the mundane same-ol' same-ol' chewing gum for the mind that preceded it. Now it seems to be a battle between Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus.

The Dave Clark Five was a fav of mine too.

Missed this one. PBS is pretty good about reruns so I know I have a chance to see it.

True. I remember when anything British was considered to be the next great thing even if it wasn't. There was a great deal of innovation coming out of England then anyway and it was fun.

Excellent program. I always liked them, but after this I'll never hear their music the same way again. Mike Smith was most interesting and had the dominant voice. Did you know he had an accident which left him paralyzed? Seems he fell off a ladder or something. Sad, sad. DC5 played the Civic Center, or Municipal Auditorium as it was called then, I think on Thanksgiving night, must have been 1964. Also on the bill were The Toys and Billy Joe Royal. My first rock concert.
