Storm southeast of Lawton moving NE with small hail.

  2. Default Re: General Weather Discussion - March 2014

HRRR indicates precip should end for the metro around 9 or 10 this evening. Wrap around does appear that it will come over Central OK, so amounts will go up for the snow at the end...think 2-3 inches at most.

It is super ugly, outside and the birds are blowing sideways. I saw two going backwards. Thick Sleet coming in hard from the north at about a 60 degree angle.

Lightning is just crazy now in Norman.

I was just about to post the same. This is worse than any of those storms that had the WSW 3-4 weeks ago.

The NROT values in that scan actually got to the point that would normally signify strong low level rotation, but went away the next scan.

It's now more like freezing rain in Stillwater as of 2PM with streets starting to get a solid white coat of it. No thunder.

We are having heavy sleet right now in Duncan, Oklahoma. It's still thundering, too.

Looks like hints of a dry slot developing in far SW OK moving up I-44 ahead of the wrap around.

Freezing rain in Stillwater turned to snow and soon lightened up.

Snow spreading east on I40 near Clinton.

Hard to tell where the heavy cut off will be in terms of dragging over the OKC area or just north of it.

Ref: Snownado....Even I saw what looked like a hook echo, which leads me to ask, "Has there ever been anything like a snownado?"

Yeah...it looks like it could straddle 40 pretty good for the heavier snow cut off. That doesn't mean south of I-40 is done at all. Snow is building further south right now.

On radar, it looks like a dry slot is going through central Oklahoma, but may be replaced by more development to the west.

Agreed. I would say this is probably the worst winter storm we've seen yet this year.

Glad to see you're getting some sort of precip. I hear its been incredibly dry this winter.

This morning, I saw some snow spinning up in what appeared to be a "dust devil". I don't know how exactly dust devils relate to real tornadoes (EF-.0001 maybe?), but the term snownado crossed my mind when I saw it.

Area of heavy snow/sleet in the wrap around looks like it will lay a direct hit on the metro unless it starts to really pull north. This will only last a couple hours once it gets here, but we could pick up a quick inch or two of snow from it.
