Dallas-Fort Worth adds nearly 295,000 jobs in the past year, triple its typical pace

    https://www.dallasnews.com/business/...-typical-pace/

The economy may be facing headwinds from inflation and higher interest rates, but the labor market is still on fire in North Texas.

Dallas-Fort Worth added 294,700 jobs in the 12 months ended in May, roughly three times more than the typical annual gains before the pandemic, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Wednesday.

Only the New York and Los Angeles metro areas added more workers in the past year, and they have much larger employment bases.

Among metros with over 1 million people, D-FW ranked third in job growth rate — up 7.7% in May, behind only Atlantic City and Las Vegas.

At the same time, the local unemployment rate remained low: 3.3% in May compared with 5.1% a year earlier, not seasonally adjusted.

“We’re still gonna see strong growth for a while,” said Adam Perdue, an economist with the Texas Real Estate Research Center at Texas A&M University. “It’s been primarily driven by the migration of companies and people. A lot of what happened during COVID seems to have supercharged the underlying growth in Texas. "

Fort Worth had the highest absolute growth, adding more than 22,000 people, while Lewisville added 19,000, followed by Dallas with just under 17,000, McKinney with 6,800 and Frisco with 6,500."

2500 Cedar Springs: Three-tower Uptown Dallas project would include office and residential -
Lincoln Property plans a mixed-use project between The Crescent and Turtle Creek

    dfw bldgs.jpeg

Developers are offering a closer look at what would be one of the largest new building projects set for Dallas’ Uptown district. Lincoln Property Commercial first disclosed its plans in April for the three-tower development at Cedar Springs Road and Fairmount Street south of Turtle Creek. The project at 2500 Cedar Springs would include a large office tower and two residential high-rises that would replace smaller buildings on the block. Lincoln Property Commercial has now filed more detailed, updated plans with the Oak Lawn Committee that show the largest of the towers would be more than 35 floors. International architecture firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designed the project, along with landscape architect OJB.

At this rate, it feels like the metroplex could have more skyscraper density than New York, Toronto, and Hong Kong combined by 2030. Kidding of course, but it feels like some large new plan for a cluster of skyscrapers is announced somewhere in DFW at least once a week.

Sometime in a few months I can find out which of these announced projects have actually moved dirt and started digging

I had some friends in town last weekend from Dallas and I was showing them Scissortail Park. They commented on how Kylde Warren didn't have a water feature or a pond with paddle boats.

New York has 22 supertalls under construction or proposed. All of which will/would be taller than any building in Dallas.

I’m aware Dallas won’t be rivaling, much less surpassing New York’s skyline anytime soon. I assumed the hyperbole was obvious. Thanks for the added details for those who thought that was a possibility though.

Wow...this may hurt Frontier City more than Six Flags Over Texas. Definitely will pull younger families from across the Red River.

To be honest, that wouldn't be the worst. I would love to see more money spent there or turned over to someone who would invest in it.

We went there a few years ago for a work gathering, rode three rides and all three were terrible. This was prepandemic.

My thoughts exactly Frontier City is at best a third rate theme park IMO.

Peppa Pig is fairly huge among the toddler crowd. Our 4 year really liked Peppa Pig, but I think Paw Patrol has edged Peppa out of first for the time being.

OKANA will change the game for OKC. Will pull a lot of families from North Texas, Southern Kansas, Amarillo, and Tulsa.

OKANA is something fresh and new, different, you only can go to Great Wolf Lodge & Hurricane Harbor so many times. Big win for Oklahoma City metro area.

    Dallas suburb Allen, TX
Allen is continuing its streak of economic wins with a corporate relocation from California.
Inbenta Holdings Inc., an international artificial intelligence firm, is shifting its headquarters from the San Francisco area to a tower on U.S. Highway 75 in Allen. It’s leasing about 5,000 square feet of office space in the One Bethany West high-rise, according to planning documents filed with the state.Allen.jpg
