Lot of that in this thread.
Again... didn't know we'd started hating Garth to be cool.

Maybe he could offer to sing at the opening of the inevitable OKC Olympic Games?
Lololol
What I don't understand is Garth worked the show, he just didn't sing. He gave his time and was not paid. Last summer he performed in Norman selflessly even though he was slated to perform in Vegas later. Seems pretty solid to this observer.
Garth Brooks was decent back in his time. I thought he was pretty good in the early 1990s. He was probably one of the defining country stars of the first half of the '90s. After that, it just got weird. Then Chris Gaines pretty much did his career in in my opinion.
Some folks just never got passed the night they miaissed ... da dance.
No, deciding he'd already made a big arse boatload of money and figuring why not enjoy it when the kiddos were little and growing up dialed him down, not that silliness on Gaines (which by the by, was a huge seller, if only for the curiosity/novelty of it.) The chap managed to make quite a haul even in semi retirement when you get down to it. A whole passle of performers wouldn't mind having his 'retired' success level as their prime level.
i'm a rock-n-roller, but did see garth back in '97 at the myriad when he sold it out 3 times. the guy puts on a great show and is very entertaining. and i would bet the biggest crowd at the tornado relief show this summer in norman was garth in the middle of the afternoon when it was blazing balls hot. he still draws a crowd.
The Chris Gaines album was the soundtrack to a movie that never got produced. It was not a career killer whatsoever for Garth Brooks.
I saw Garth Brooks back in the 80's, not long befor he hit it big and moved to Nashville. He was playing an annual shareholders dinner for a local credit union. He was very good then, and it impressed me that while he had a long line of autograph seekers after the show, he sat down and signed every one,.. till the last person left.
I've seen three "one-man stage shows" that I will never forget:
The first was Rush Limbaugh Live at a local venue (perhaps the Civic Center) several years ago.
The second was Garrison Keillor Live at the same venue (more recently).
The third was a telecast of Garth Brooks at some Steve Wynn Casino in Vegas, tonight on CBS.
It was an all-encompassing tribute to the incredible talent of the performer, on stage, and those who helped make him what he is.
Garth represented the REAL Oklahoma well. (imho)
