City leadership touched down in San Antonio's International Center on Thursday, September 21, for a "mega announcement," which was revealed to be new direct flights to Frankfurt, Germany.

The flights will be provided by air carrier Condor, a German airline based in Frankfurt sometimes identifiable by the striped livery of its airplanes. The 5,000-plus mile flight is the airports first direct line to Europe, marking a big milestone for the Alamo City, which was described in a news release as "the most important thing to happen to San Antonio."

BROADWAY EAST (PHASE 1) — LOWER BROADWAY DISTRICT

The project is being called BESA, or Broadway East San Antonio, and will sit on 20 acres of property that extends northeast of the Broadway and Casa Blanca intersection. The presentation says phase 1 will start with building out approximately 218,500 square-feet of retail space across from the Pearl. The document says developers hope to attract home furnishings, fashion, heritage brands, and wellness and beauty businesses to the area.

Phase 2 will complete the project build-out at nearly 1.9 million square-feet that will include six multi-story apartments and a 15-story hotel further up Broadway. The project is projected to break ground in late 2024 with an expected finish date on phase 1 in early 2026.

PORT UNVEILS NEW DETAILS ABOUT $300 MILLION FUTURISTIC OFFICE TOWER

    03/04/2024

A glittering wing-shaped building set to rise at Port San Antonio will cost about $300 million and demand rents of $50 a square foot or more — putting it among the most expensive offices in the city.

But despite rising office vacancies across San Antonio, Port CEO Jim Perschbach is confident he'll have no trouble filling the space.

He says the futuristic tower will be an illustration of the cybersecurity, aerospace, defense and advanced manufacturing work being done at the Port — and a way to raise the city's profile.
