Thread: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

GFS keeping snow chances in the mix for the NW part of the state, but NAM keeps it up in Kansas. Still thinking it will be rain with maybe a flake or two mixing in, but nothing life ending. Though there is that feeling down here of... see snow flake = must find something to smash into.

    lol. BREAD AND MILK!

Also noticed GFS shows mid-week winter precip chances again here for OK (looks like NE best bet.)

That is HILARIOUS! It literally had me laughing out loud, drawing strange looks from coworkers.

Light to moderate rain moving in now to the SW Metro. This first batch should move through pretty fast. Scattered stuff for the rest of the day.

    Blah

  7. Default Re: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

And pretty much all of the rain moving in has fallen apart. LOL Just some isolated/scattered showers left now. Some heavier stuff back in Western OK moving ENE and also down to the SW.

    Welcome to Fall.

Now either a freeze warning or frost advisory covers the majority of the state. So far a frost advisory for Oklahoma City.

Rain is mostly over for OKC area.

Picked up barely a trace. SW parts of state got around half n inch.

A lot of heaters will run for the first time tonight!

Well the rain was suppose to be over.

If it was a month later, this would all be snow outside this evening.

lol, yea right after I posted the drizzle machine got cranking.

OKC generally got about a tenth from all the drizzle.

Well Norman hit 32 last hour at the NWS site at Westheimer...looks like OKC has stayed above freezing so far, but a degree.

    Here are the Mesonet lows...

    It's chilly, willy.

Wearing my thermal undershirt this morning.

Not sucking up or anything, but to me this is the best, most accurate, source of local weather information around.

So, I have to ask: What is the forecast for next weekend?

We are planning to take a little trip back down to the SE part of the state in order to drive from Talihina to Mena on the famous Skyline Drive in order to view the Fall foliage. Hopefully, this cold snap will have made the foliage more Fallish. Don't really want to make the trip if the weather is going to be crappy (like it was here yesterday).

    What's the scoop weather-wise?
(if I may be presumptuous enough to ask)

Late October is a little early to do that, but surely some color will have started. The forecast then has highs in the 60s, and partly cloudy with no chance of rain.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. However, I'm afraid that if we wait, my work schedule won't provide an easy opportunity to make the drive. I remember going up to Grove one time--in mid-to-late October--and the trees in that area were at their peak of color (other than green). Plus no unexpected storm had knocked most of them off the branches.

HRRR has isolated/scattered storms over Central OK forming by 1AM out to the west, moving through the Metro around 3AM...slowing down by end of rush hour.

This is a really weird line of storms..... Not growing or contracting or changing shape. Just a sausage link drifting to the ENE....

  19. Default Re: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

Everything is moving roughly due east right now.

  20. Default Re: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

Areas from North Norman up through far southern Moore might see some small hail mixed in with the rain as the storms roll through.

  21. Default Re: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

Back edge of the line is now at US 281 from Binger to Gracemont. Rain will continue another hour or two for those that are ahead of this line. Some areas will see a good 1 to 3 inches of rain from this.

  22. Default Re: Oklahoma Weather Discussion - September/October 2013

Few more storms moving through the area. Norman continues to see heavy rain and hail up to a half inch with each cell.

Mesonet reporting only 0.6" of rain, but the heaviest rain has been on the East side of Norman which is probably pushing 2 inches now.

Any word on how the perfectly normal seasonal temperature changes may or may not be highlighting the foliage color change in the southeastern quadrant of the state? Like, from Talihina to Mena (AK)?

What about whether or not it will be a sunny day regardless of the foliagiousty?

(sorry, Venture. You really ARE the Weather Wizard (and rational, scientific, human being in here, so I just had to ask.
on account of I don't know the answer to my question.)

This should be a great foliage year. I'm thinking it's going to peak a bit earlier than usual due to the cooler temps and abundant rainfall. Wish I had a cabin lined up during the next couple of weeks.

Heading down to the Wichitas for a couple nights camping this weekend. Looks like perfect weather for hiking and climbing during the day and campfires at night.
