I couldn't get that link to work, but I think I had read somewhere that the old railroad yard was being sold to Tinker. I'm not sure if this is that, or if that is 15 acres... but maybe?

I don't think it's the same land since the railyard was owned by the rail company. Maybe the area south of the runway up to 74th??? Could be more land over by the communications wing? The base has some very weird lines on the south side....meanders around the neighborhoods near sooner/59th in a very odd way (and for years I though Tinker Elementary was actually on the base....go figure).

From the City Council memo for today (Item No. VII.AQ.):

"The Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust (OCWUT) manages the Lake
Stanley Draper Reservation. The General Manager was contacted by
Tinker Air Force Base, inquiring whether a parcel of land located east of
Midwest Boulevard and bordered on the north and west by Tinker Air
Force Base was available for their use in continuing expansion of its
maintenance mission in Oklahoma City.

The property is owned by The City of Oklahoma City and contained
within the OCWUT leasehold. It was purchased for water supply and
water quality protection purposes.

The General Manager determined the land in question could be released
for other uses given its distance from the lake and a commitment from
Tinker Air Force Base to protect the water quality of any rainwater
reaching Lake Draper.

In order to determine the value, staff obtained an appraisal of the
identified parcel in its current configuration totaling 16.8 acres. The
parcel is appraised at a fair market value of $250,000. Tinker Air Force
Base revised its request to 14.47 acres. The 14.47 acre tract would be
conveyed to Tinker Air Force Base with the funding being provided by
the Oklahoma Industries Authority for the appraised fair market value of
$216,666, for preservation and protection of Tinker Air Force Base."

OKC to sell 15 acres to Tinker Air Force Base

OKLAHOMA CITY – The City Council is expected to sell about 15 acres of municipal land to Tinker Air Force Base on Tuesday to expand base operations, officials said.

The property is adjacent to the base on the south and directly east of S. Midwest Boulevard. The tract is being conveyed to Tinker through the Oklahoma Industries Authority, which is funding the sale price of $216,666 to Oklahoma City. The trust’s purpose in the deal is to preserve and protect the base, City Manager Jim Couch said in a memo to council members.

City staff obtained an appraisal of $250,000 on 16.8 acres originally sought by the base and then adjusted the price for a revised target of 14.47 acres.

The property is contained within the city’s Water Utilities Trust leasehold, originally purchased for the purpose of water supply and water quality protection for Lake Stanley Draper. The trust was contacted this year by federal officials about its use as parking space and rainwater retention for a base expansion, city spokeswoman Debbie Ragan said. Given that the potential of development for the parcel is limited otherwise, the trust agreed to the sale.

A Tinker Air Force Base representative could not be reached for comment Monday.

In February, Tinker accepted title to 158 acres of a former Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. rail yard that once served a General Motors plant. The military base is using the land to build a depot maintenance facility for large aerial refueling aircraft, the KC-46A Pegasus, which is expected to commence by 2018.

That deal did not truly affect the city’s total landmass, however, because City Hall only purchased the BNSF yard in order to deed the land over to the base. In 2006, GM shut down its sport-utility vehicle assembly line at the plant and eliminated 2,500 jobs. The building remained vacant until 2008, when the board of Oklahoma County commissioners asked residents to approve a $55 million bond issue to purchase the property and lease it to Tinker.
