EDMOND — The City Council agreed 5-0 this week to approve an agreement with LandPlan Consultants Inc. for the first phase of designing the 18-20 mile trail to wrap around Arcadia Lake.

Designing the 3-mile segment of Spring Creek Trail from Interstate 35 will cost the city $200,000, said Steve Commons, assistant city manager.

“We’ve got a schedule now that we hope that come spring we will be able to initiate bids and construct that portion of the trail,” Commons said.

All engineering and design costs will be paid by the City of Edmond to the tune of about $2 million, according to the city. The estimated cost for the 18-foot wide trail ranges from $800,000 to $1 million a mile. The Arcadia Lake Trail Coalition is a nonprofit group set with the task of raising $20 million for the project.

The environmental assessment for the entire project is nearly finished and will be reflected in the design, Commons said. City workshops have taken place to take into account the suggestions made by nearby residents.

EDMOND — Members of LandPlan Consultants Inc. will be looking at Arcadia Lake next week as their work continues for the first phase of Arcadia Lake Trails, Edmond Parks and Recreation Director Craig Dishman said this week before the Edmond Fish and Game Commission.

The City Council recently accepted a contract from LandPlan Consultants for the first phase of designing the 18-20 mile trail to wrap around Arcadia Lake. The first segment of the trail will be 18 feet wide, Dishman said.

“We expect it to be the busiest part of the whole loop of the trail system out there,” Dishman said.

Designing the 3.1-mile segment of Spring Creek Trail from Interstate 35 will cost the city $200,000, Assistant City Manager Steve Commons said in January.

“We’re moving as fast as we can with what funds are available,” Dishman said. “The Spring Creek portion of the trail which runs from the end of Fox Lake under I-35 to the park will go under construction we hope this summer.”

Construction on the first phase of the trail should begin in late spring and take three or four months to complete, depending on weather conditions, Dishman said.
