If you go to that site and look at the photos of the cities featured in this competition, you'll see that all of them have huge holes due to misguided urban renewal projects of the 60's and 70's.

Yes, OKC razed way too many buildings and made a lot of stupid mistakes, but the idea we are somehow unique is simply wrong. It happened everywhere, it's just that we had less urban fabric to start with and we are all much more sensitive and aware because it happened in a city that we know and love.

I love when people freak out about our parking lots downtown. It really isn't THAT bad. There are some big ones, and most are in Bricktown area, but if you look at Houston, for example, there are ones covering whole blocks all over the place. Dallas and ALBQ has some monsters too.

It wasn't that long ago that OKC had block size parking lots as well. Remember the Kerr McGee lots in Deep Deuce or what was on the Devon Tower site just a few years ago. The last 15 years in OKC has really started removing the scars. We still have lower Bricktown to deal with but for the most part OKC really has an 'open space' problem from grass covered lots.

I think the area they covered in Houston was not even their biggest parking crater, it easily has a few times the area converted to parking lots near the core, if they were going to a focal point of Houston's verses the entire area it should have been near the baseball park.
