I should have known that link was a trap.
Got the following notification from T-Mobile today:
FYI for our Oklahoma T-Mobile customers, area code 572 is being added to the existing 405 area starting 10/24/2020. For more information: t-mo.co/2El58wQ
“ You won't start noticing changes until April 24, 2021, but you will want to begin getting in the habit of adding the area code.
After April 24th, if you forget the area code your call will not be complete and you will be instructed to hang up and dial again.”

Where I work there are employees that are from all over. And most come and go every couple years. Everyone just has cell, no land lines. So I've had to plug everyone in with area codes for years because their numbers are from wherever they originally got service. I bet I have more numbers programmed from other than 405 than within 405. I would think a lot of people have similar situations.
any clue how to get numbers assigned now? I would like to have my same number in both area codes
I read on Facebook the mandatory 10 digit dialing becomes official this weekend.
I wonder how this will work with my land line since I dont have it set up for long distance.
This change doesn't involve long distance. It's a change to local dialing patterns. For example, say you call someone whose number is 555-1234. Up until now, you've been able to reach them by dialing just those 7 digits. Starting tomorrow, that will no longer work. You will have to dial the full 10-digit number (405-555-1234) in order to reach them.
