Thread: Petula Clark

    Default Petula Clark

I'm sure this won't interest most of our younger posters here but I came across the video from a litttle over a year ago from Petula. When I was in college in the late 60's she was almost an obsession in my fraternity house. She certainly doesn't have the voice that she once had but it's great to see her still out there. She is 79 now and was 78 at the time this was filmed.

And from July of last year. She's always been a favorite in France.

She is the consumate professional and I would give anything to see her in live concert today.

I remember her well and she still sounds good especially since she's close to 80

When I was 13, I thought "Downtown" was one of the best songs on the radio.

They should have a PBS Music Special featuring Petula Clark and Tony Bennett.

Amazingly, she made her first record ("Put Your Shoes On, Lucy") in 1949, at seventeen; she'd already done years of acting.

    Wow! Very nice!
And coincidental too!: If that was 66 years ago, that would make her about 13!
(The same age I was when "Downtown" came on the radio, in 1964, and I "discovered" Petula Clark!! =)
(Just before The Beatles took over my entire Musical Universe . . . Well, the Beatles and The Dave Clark Five =)

From April of this year at the age of 82, she is still one of my favorites even if her voice isn't what it used to be.

Petula is right up there with the greatest female singers to dazzle the audiences in France; right up there with Edith Paif, Shirley Bassey, Linda Ronstadt & Dusty Springfield.

Can't forget one of my favorites of Petula:
