Norman Chamber Launches 35 South Project
As the Chamber of Commerce has looked to expand communication and outreach there has been a consistent desire to include Norman commuters. The “35 South Project” is designed to keep Norman-to-OKC commuters in contact with what’s happening in Norman.
“There are many who travel to the OKC area for work every day but call Norman home,” said John Woods, President and CEO. “They are committed to the goals of the Chamber, they want a community they can continue to raise their family in, but often they are disconnected from the day to day activities and issues of our city.”
The 35 South Project kickoff event, sponsored by Fowler Honda, is scheduled for Wednesday, February 29, Noon at the Cox Convention Center, 1 Myriad Gardens, OKC. A panel discussion including Eric Fleske, Equity Realty discussing development trends in Norman; Shawn O’Leary, City of Norman discussing transportation and John Woods, President/CEO discussing the “Community Outlook for Norman in 2012.”
The Chamber is looking for anyone who lives in Norman and commutes to the OKC area. There is no exclusivity to this new project; anyone from young professionals to seasoned veterans in business are asked to share their desire to be included.
“These leaders can be great ambassadors for our city and we need their involvement to help make our Norman the most dynamic, cutting edge city in Oklahoma,” said Woods. “I’m excited to announce the formation of the 35 South Project – a ground breaking opportunity for the Chamber and our partners to reach out to these commuters where they work and keep them up to date on what is happening in Norman.”
If you are an OKC area commuter or know one, please email your contact information to John Woods at john@normanchamber.com. To RSVP for the February 29 event contact Robin Allen at 321-7260 or at robin@normanchamber.com. Ticket price for this event is $10 per person.

Why charge admission to somthng like that? The Chamber of commerce and Fowler Honda could have foot the bill for renting the room at the Convention Center.

This doesn't seem very genuine if they are charging admission.

Sounds more like they want to say they offered it but don't really want anybody to attend.

Thanks for the questions - the cost of a meal at Cox Center is quite costly, and we have tried to keep costs low - we are subsidizing through our sponsor the cost by $10 a person. Almost every event you attend has a meal cost and we've kept this as low as possible. We've had some great Normanites rsvp and have a great program put together.

considering nearly any lunch beyond a t-bell or low end burger value menu would run over 7, the price is not silly. I even get doing a Norman thing in DT OKC at lunch as that is likely to draw more Normanites than an early snackish dinner on a Tues. eve at the Embassy in Norman would. Changing your lunch routine is one thing. Giving up some of one's evening time is a whole different barrel of monkeys.

I didn't read it closely enough to notice there was a meal included. You are correct about not being able to eat for less than $10 at most places.

If this isn't well attended, you might try a 'Brown Bag Lunch' event where people could bring their own meal.
