Oklahoma Earthquakes 2012

Welcome to the 2012 version of this thread we've been doing for a few years now. So looking back 2010 finished with just over 200 reported earthquakes in Oklahoma. In 2011 we had an amazing year with over an estimated 1200 earthquakes including the record breaking 5.6 earthquake east of the Metro area. This earthquake was felt all over the Midwest from Illinois/Wisconsin and south through Texas. The earthquake was combined with a strong 4.7 foreshock that was felt over much of the region and then followed but another strong aftershock that rattled the region. 2011 finished off with a 3.5 earthquake in the same region where the 5.6 quake took place.

Oklahoma is home to many fault lines. The two most active areas for the 2011 period was the earthquake swarm zone just to the Northeast of Oklahoma City. The most noticed area was along the previously thought dormant Wilzetta Fault line to the east of the Oklahoma City area. This is also know as the Seminole Uplift. The area recorded well over 200 immediate aftershocks.

This map is updated with all earthquakes recording by the monitoring sites in Oklahoma, and most of these quakes do not register on the USGS site.

I predict that this topic will reach 100+ pages as the year goes on. This is not just like any other years. Its the year 2012, the one billions of people have been waiting for. Its been pretty quiet for awhile. Did have quite a few weak tremors yesterday. A 2.2 happened today so far - which is the only one registered by the USGS.

I was mentioned on KOCO the other day regarding an earthquake that shook the structure. This light fixture fell out of the ceiling directly above the recliner where I was sitting. On that day, I narrowly escaped death.

Been months since this has been updated since we really haven't had many noticeable quakes. However, 2012 has still been extremely active. Here is a map, from the OGS data, on each quake location for the year so far.
