I was in the CADD program at Francis Tuttle last year and we had one in class! Truly is awesome...
Amazing! Thanks for sharing that.
Phenominal. Astounding. Thank you. No kidding.
Yet, at some point in the ad the guy says something like:
"So . . . If you are in space, and lose your wrench, you can just print another one?"
(Answer: "Yes".)
Wouldn't you have to have a really, really long extension cord?
But does this printer cost like $100,000?
http://www.makerbot.com is just a little bit cheaper
The one at Francis Tuttle was around $40,000 I believe.
Reminds me of those animal mold machines they used to have at the zoo.
Question is, who will be the first to 3D print their you know what?!
Calling Mr. Weiner.
That is awesome!
Their is also this project that was designs to also be able to build most of itself (excluding the motor and few other parts) so once one is in an area, a community can build itself up, though assembly is required but at components it can't make cost around $1,000, sill though cheaper than a lot of options. Plus in each revision of the design it can build more of it's own parts (should make it cheaper over time) and add additional capabilities to do things.
So how far can this technology go? Could it build a car that is street legal? The answer is yes, it can.

Here is the prototype on a test drive. The mechanics of the car is real but the body panels and glass are all 3D printed.
We had one of those at Cessna Aircraft when I worked there 10 years ago... The engineers love it. They could create ANYTHING in 3D to scale on CATIA and shoot it to the "printer." Then actually make sure it was designed and drawn in CATIA properly before mass producing it....
That's pretty cool.
Cool details! 3D printing is an extensively adopted technology by the additive manufacturing industry. There are quite a few 3d printers available and that they are gradually getting smaller and cheaper. In my opinion even if the machines themselves are cheap but there is still a lot of money that will be paid out for the materials to print them as well as other things. Thanks for sharing.
