Thread: The Cane Brake resort near Wagoner ~ anybody been!

  1. Default The Cane Brake resort near Wagoner ~ anybody been!

I recently stumbled upon this resort's website and was wondering if anyone has been there and could share their thoughts?

We like to get 2-5 couples together every so often for 'outings' that are at least somewhat healthy and outdoorsy and this looked like an interesting local destination.

Particularly interested in the challenge course, dinning, hiking and accommodations.

That's a new one on me. My typical stay for that area is the Western Hills state facility near there, or just drop south a ways and visit the kin.

Their website looks nice though. If you haven't seen it, Travelok has a small piece on Canebrake at: http://www.travelok.com/listings/view.profile/id.7779

Their challenge course sounds similar to most I've seen. FWIW, the local scout council does permit non-council folk to use their low and high element courses as well.
They have a rather nice low course and high course setup at what used to be Camp Kickapoo (County Line & SW 119)

No fancy digs and food for the day would be bring your own, but it's rather convenient for a midweek get together or a no time to travel but still wanna hang outing.

Thanks for the link. I'm surprised I hadn't heard about The Cane Brake before now. The pics make it look really nice.

Do you have a link to the ropes course you mentioned? I'd like to get additional info.

Canadian Valley Vo Tech offers a challenge course with high elements. I believe they offer this at both El Reno and at Chickasha.

For the scout council in OKC, that's Last Frontier Council. their COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) information is at:
http://www.doubleknot.com/openroster...23&orgkey=2181 (Phone at bottom of that linked page)
If everyone is still in the same spots as when I was last active, Ryan Lemons is the council's program director. If Lemons isn't over COPE for outsiders, he'll know where to point you.

The Ropes course at The Canebrake is gorgeous and we have a 300-foot zip line off a 50-foot tower - very fun! Come out for a day or for our next "Zip-n-Sip" from 1-5 p.m. Oct. 2 where you can ride the zip line then go to the lounge for your choice of a flight of beer, wine or a dessert.

Welcome Adam. It appears you're a wee less of a well kept secret than you have been to date.
I suspect you'll hear from a few folks.

The wife and I just spent the weekend at The Canebrake. What a wonderful place!

About a 2.5 hour drive from OKC and upon arrival we were greeted by some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered. Really 5 star treatment.

After checking in to our wonderful room we took in the Zip-N-Sip (zip lining and wine/beer sipping), then a walk/hike through the woods (spotted lots of deer), then a sunset canoe paddle, an incredible dinner and dessert. We capped off the night sitting on the porch outside our room.

The next morning the wife took in a yoga class (she loved it), while I fished.

Later we did another long walk along the lake and then stuffed ourselves on the Sunday brunch.

It was a great romantic getaway. I highly recommend it!
