Yeah, our Thunder guys like to get a big steak at Mickey Mantle's. They go there a lot.

After watching people swarm over Dallas Cowboy players and Denver Broncho players when they were simply out trying to enjoy a nice dinner, the best thing people can do is maybe smile at them and then leave them alone. I recall several times seeing Troy Aikman out in Dallas and it was truly appalling how people would simply annoy him to the point he had to get up and leave his meal.

I've met a few Toronto Raptors players back when the Hornets were here. They were very nice guys. I also had a Hornet player that was a regular customer at my store. Overall most of the time they are very nice, but I'm sure they don't want to be hounded.

I watched John Elway chew out a lady at his own restaurant in Denver because he had just had too much of it. They are entertainers and they are rich, but they are also people and should be allowed to enjoy themselves and their families when they are out. Treat them like a normal person and they will be greatful.

I was at McAlester's on Memorial for a late lunch today and I saw Nick Collison leaving. He was eating in the corner before he left. I wanted to yell out "nice clutch free throws last night" but held back. I didn't want to make a spectical of myself or him. He obviously wanted to be left alone.

Some players may love the attention (the old versions of "Neon" Dion Sanders and Michael Irvin come to mind) but most really don't.

That's pretty random and awesome. I was a bartender there a few years back when it opened and I was still in school.

I was at Rok Bar last year when I had just moved back from DC and the Indiana Pacers were all there. Also my friend pointed out some porn star from Oklahoma was there. The place was packed to the brim, pretty easy to pick out a whole bunch of 6'9-7'2 guys.

Also, when I was going to the OU/Washington game last year I flew into OKC from DC to meet up with friends. When we were at the airport we saw Kevin Durant, thought he was flying into Seattle with us to grab some stuff, but he connect with us in Denver. When he was in line this older guy in a cowboy hat walked up to him and asked "Are you Kevin Durant" in a heavy southern accent. He said, "Yes sir, I am" with a big smile. Classy dude.

I met Tyson Chandler at Deep Fork when he first was traded to the Hornets. All I said was, "Welcome to Oklahoma City" and he stopped and chatted with our table. I think they don't mind a friendly comment, as long as they're not expected to respond. If they do, it's a bonus, but shouldn't be expected.

My son and I ran into Kevin Durant and his brothers at Wal Mart not too long after they got here. I got his autograph on a magazine that had his picture on the cover. He was super nice. They were looking at video games and just hanging out in the store. One of the most fun trips to Wal Mart I've had.

Lots of high end steak houses and other restaurants are ala carte like that.

Most are. OKC just hasn't had a high end steak house until recently.

The day before the OU/OSU game my wife chated with Mike Gundy on the elevator at the hotel where we were staying. She didn't know who he was until she saw him on TV the next day. I have to imagine most famous people like to be treated like regular people most of the time.

Personally, I never understood hero/idol/celebrity worship.

Yeah I met a OSU assistant coach (who on longer works there) on a vacation overseas. I saw his OSU shirt and started up a conversation. He told me he worked at the University and I said that's cool I bet you get a lot of good perks, etc. for athletic events. I asked him if he thought Sutton was close to retiring. About that time his trophy wife interjected as annoyingly as possible:

    "He's an ASSISTANT COACH!!!"

Kind of made me sorry I said anything in the 1st place. I would have never have known if she hadn't said anything...

Mick Cornett was in the Jack Daniels Bar before the game last night without any fanfare. Obviously the Mayor is not a basketball player but it was good to see him have a hamburger and beer just like anyone else.

I have a friend who is a waiter at MM. He said he thinks that Mickey Mantles has some sort of agreement with the team since most of the visiting teams eat there.

I actually think they just like the food, and when teams visit the players tell them to eat there.

I've been to MM's a handful of times and after every game there is a group of the ball players hanging out in there. You run into them at Red Pin and a handful of the clubs downtown too.

Chris Paul has a handful of "Favorite" restaurants here too. One of my friends ran into him (literally) at Charlston's in Edmond on Monday.

I once heard Terry Bradshaw say he draws the line when he is with his family eating. Most celebrities do not like to be approached while they are eating, especially when they are with friends and family. I saw Hornets players at Penn Square a lot and have seen numerous Thunder players there. I usually do not say anything to them and usually do not ask celebrities for autographs. I have learned with celebrities you have to approach them at the right time and place in the proper manner. I met Steve Lackemeyer at Borders once. He was pretty nice for a big-time newspaper reporter.
