Thread: Gaijin Norman Closed, Renovating, Or Relocated?

  1. #1

Default Gaijin Norman Closed, Renovating, Or Relocated?

I was in the area and noticed that Gaijin on the west side of Norman appeared to be closed. The small shop they've occupied for quite some time was completely empty and there appeared to be renovation work going on.

There was also a 'for lease' style sign on the window.

Anyone know what's going on with them?

No idea, but often wondered why a sushi place would use a derogatory word for foreigners for a restaurant name.

If they were better buisiness owners they would have put a sign in the window that said "come see us at our new downtown location on Main st.!" but....

I heard the same thing happened to them as what happened to Pepe's and Turquoise. Tax related issues.

May have overexposed themselves financially with the failed Gaijin downtown...

it seems opening new restaurants is the hobby of the owner

No "new" owner. always been the same owner. And the gai jin refers to his own time spent training in japan. He is making fun of himself, Elder, not you.

I'm trying to find where I stated he was making fun of me or anyone. I just stated I didn't know and wondered the reason for the name.

No offense meant, Mr. Ender. it just happens to be a touchy subject on this end. Also i apologize for getting your handle wrong earlier. Anyway if you find Gil at his shop he can tell some pretty good stories about being a gai jin learning to cook over there.

Bummer! I loved Gaijin. I haven't been there in a month or two. I used to go weekly. So they are officially out of business? That makes me sad.
