From anyone of authority: "Spit that out!! You look like a cow chewin' its cud"
Letting the adults go first in line at a picnic, family gathering, and then being sent to clean up the mess while the old folks visited.
Oh yeah, El Charrito (not El Chico, thank you very much). Over time I was privileged to get to know some of the people from El Charrito. Phil Renteria grew up working there and became a leader in the local graphic arts business. Great guy, he passed away in the '90's way too young. Lupe, one of the waitresses there, I last saw waiting tables at Nino's on NW Expy a few years ago. She was an awesome waitress and approached her job with good humor and seemed to really enjoy it.
Funny story, I went with a business associate, let's call him "Hoss", to Nino's a few years ago. He is a big blowhard of a guy who tries to impress people with his sense of humor. He made a fool of himself using bad Spanish, telling Lupe that if she didn't give us excellent service he would see that she was sent back where she came from. She said "Detroit?" She had a strong Mexican accent but was actually born in Detroit to a Mexican family. One of the best laughs I ever had.
Manners and etiquette.
Customer service, in the work place.
You're not what it's all about.
Does stealing (borrowing) a Watermelon fit in there????
Really going Snipe hunting and actually shooting a Jackalope....had the head mounted so people would believe me.....
Sneaking into the "girly" show at the State Fair.....Sheesh I thought I would be going blind. We went in under the back of the tent.....Boy, you want to talk about some cheesy looking ladies.......
Riding a real roller coaster (Big Dipper)...Not some computerized contraption....
Riding on a real cattle round-up....that was cool...hard work but it was fun....My new daughter-in-law told me she would go with me again...I think I'm too old.....
We ought to vote on that one. That's something I never did, probably
because there weren't any melon patches where we lived.
Ah, the elusive Jackalope! Too funny. Snipe hunts were always fun. I don't
think any two hunts were ever the same.
That would have been the 'Club Lido' at the Great State Fair of OK. They
were cheesy looking. They may have been pretty in the 20's. I felt sorry
for them.

Hey! One of them might have been my mom..................
Or my dad (ssshhhh), promised to never tell.
Those cheesy women become a cocktail waitress at the Horseshoe in Las Vegas or a waitress/greeter at the Skyline on S.E. 15th........
The Skyline has a greeter/cashier that looks like that. Could have been the original Vampira (spelling?)
Servers were younger, much younger!
Went to the Skyline recently after finding out they served frog legs....
They were very yummy, plump and tender (The frog legs)
My kids or grandkids will never know about having to (or being able) picking up Pop bottles and selling them because you wanted to to earn some money. Not picking up cans because you needed to. They'll never know about selling Donuts door to door of mowing a yard and trimming around the base of the house for $2.00 and going to the State Fair all day on that $2.00.....
Knowing how to successfully "Hustle" is a learned art....going out robbing someone is a cowards way.....
Do they still have Fair Day for the schools. It used to be on Monday. The
teachers would pass out the FREE tickets the Friday before.
That was a great time! $5 and no parents!
I went to school in north east Oklahoma for a couple of years and they let us
out for the Tulsa AND the State fairs!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Band Day was always GREAT.....You got in Free with your band uniform on....as did all the other schools that marched in the Fair Day Parade....plenty of places to check out when the girls had to get out of their uniforms....I didn't say that....

One time we were trying to promote the TG&Y store at 23/Council....Had no extra advertising money and couldn't afford to "Mark Down" everything so, I went out and bought (My Money) a Mimeograph Machine and convinced ALL the merchants in the Center to advertise with us. They would pay or trade for
Advertising space and we (along with EVERYONE else) would put the flyers in their sacks when they bagged their goods.....Did Great.....Of course, we had the larger portion of the weekly ad....that way we could help ourselves get rid of our overstocks and not just buys the company had made.....Thanks Jim...
